Dark Amber in color with a nice head. Smells of grapefruit and spruce. Tasted the citrus and spruce with a grassy aftertaste Fairly bitter.

Deceptively sweet smell, and initial taste finishes (too?) bitter and hoppy. My girlfriend tried it, made a face, and said it tasted like cockroach juice. Iím not sure how she knows, but I disagree.

Another one of my Top Ten. Carl...just rating this one makes me want to get back to The Maple Tree for an all nighter...or maybe follow those up with some free Budweisers...

thanks to Jimmack04 for this one. clear and deep amber color, big rocky tan head that lasts. pine, floral hop aroma. taste is surprisingly malty, powerful hop balance. mild carbonation. nice sweet departure but not too sticky or cloying. lots of crazy lacing. nice IPA, but APA??

12 oz bottle. 54į. NB Worthy glass. Poured red with orange tints and a 1/2" off white head. The head fades away after a minute or so leaving a ring around the glass and a few fat bubbles huddled together off to one side. Lots of lacing, the beer seems to coat the glass. Aroma is big floral hops and a bit oí honey. There is some pineyness in the aroma as well. Nice aroma. The taste is all hops. It tastes like you are chewing on a pine tree. There are also some citrus rind flavors and some spicy ones as well. The flavor is almost completely hops driven, but the beer is not overly bitter. The finish is dry and flavorful. Mouthfeel is full. I might rate a finely balanced beer higher, but I sure do love a hoppy beer, and this is a great example.

The hops are so aromatic, this beer is hard to resist. Usual grapefruit, floral scents, but in a much greater magnitude than other, hoppier pales. Nice balance, hops hit quick and fade into a dry finish. The malt middle is a bit thin, but Iíd be knitpicking. Another great FFF beer. Cheers!

[bottle at MontreAlers meeting - Thanks, JM and Enkerli] Bright brownish orange with a creamy head that recedes quickly to a thin film that leaves some lace on the glass. Aroma heavy with pine and some grapefruit--itís like smelling fresh hops but itís only a tiny bit vegetal. Surprisingly gentle but ascertive hop flavour that perfectly reiterates the aroma: pine and a little grapefruit. Also surprisingly moderate bitterness considering the amout of hops in the front end of things. Extremely smooth finish with a medium body and perfect level of carbonation.

Bought this 6-pack at Normís in Vienna, VA. Cloudy, orangy/copper pour. Nice frothy head. Nice strong hoppy aroma. Citrusy. Very strong hop presence in the flavor. Nice balance as well. However, this should be considered an IPA like poivre said. Too much hops, and I believe the alcohol is too high for a Pale Ale. But still, even if itís a little over-hopped, a damn good beer.

Iím sorry, this is a great beer, but hereís the problem: itís an India Pal Ale, not a Pale Ale. Judging an Alpha King as a Pale Ale, itís simply too hoppy. Either ratebeer has it miscategorized or 3F decided that it was tougher to market an IPA. Put this as an IPA and I would give it top marks all around.

Pours a clear copper color with a nice thick head and great lacing. Nose of citrus. Nice pine and citrus bitterness as well as flavor. Has a nice crisp and bitter finish.
