Alpha King is an American Pale Ale with a bold citrus hop character. We brew all our beers for our own demanding tastes. If you’re unwilling to compromise on your beer, we urge you to try it.

On tap at the Wild Onion Brewpub: Gorgeous deep amber color, head is smallish but lacey. Aroma promises plenty of pine. Taste is big on hops at first--and continues all the way through. Not as malty as I expected but pretty well balanced nonetheless. Overall very nice but I didn't think it was quite as fine as Kona Brewery's Fire Rock Ale on tap.

On tap at Brewery: Outstanding appearance and excellent lacing. Big hop aroma of pine, grapefruit, flowers, and tart apple. In addition detected nutty grain, and a hint of vanilla. Very hoppy up front but settles down to have nice balance. Too cool! The pine cone taste does linger well after you are done drinking (unless you "clean your palate" with a Behemoth like I did!) Very dry and lively mouthfeel, somewhat metallic feel. This is one nice hoppy pale ale, recommended. Another winner by Three Floyds. (Note: I have had this numerous times in the past, just got around to getting it on tap again)

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2004 Draft, at the Brewery. Ah, the firstborn child of Nick & Co's "Not Normal" brewing philosophy. It's almost damning with faint praise not to call it an IPA (in which case, it'd rate second to 3F's own Dreadnaught. At our homebrew club meeting at the brewery, it felt as though we were swimming on the US's entire hop production for the year. Tangy citrus hop flavor will give you a buzz long before the alcohol can work its magic. An inspiration to every amateur or pro brewer to "go BIG, or go home!" Bottled: Not surprising that the bottled version is a little tamer than we had fresh at the brewery, even if I did get the bottles straight from the brewery. Still a great hop nose you can't help but get assaulted by. As they say, try to find it on draught, or take the brewery tour!

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2007 January 2007. Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Hazy dark orange amber, small creamy beige head fades a bit but is revived with a swirl. Big hoppy aroma, lots of orange citrus and a bit of resin dominates the nose. Similar flavour with lots of resiny hop presence, moderate citrus (I remember there being more). Pleasant bitterness lingers in the finish. Average palate (3+?) Loses a step because it does not quite live up to my expectations but is nonetheless very good. 8/3+/7-8/3/16+ - 4.0<P> Nov 200? - A bit maltier than the HopDevil I had the night before, maybe a tiny bit less hoppy? Nice bit of citrus notes. Notes pre-dating Ratebeer. 9/3/8/3/17 - 4.0

Beautiful medium amber. Big hops AND malt right up front. Both take a long fade to a very dry pleasant aftertaste. As near to perfection as can be obtained for this style.

Rich orange-amber w/ lovely toffee head. Robust grapefruit aroma. Sticky, sweet feel. Intense, lively, fresh hop bitterness. Excellent, rich, toffee-ish malt background. Dry finish. Fantastic beer.

Fresh green hop aroma. Aromatic, and organic. Good depth, well constructed. Front medium roasted malt with hopier end. Medium body, very refreshing. Recommended.

Draft: I like almost any beer that smells like brewday and the raw hops of this one are very nice! A nice head atop a ruby colored brew. This one is almost a bit harsh if it is the first beer of your session, but it quickly sweetens and mellows. Very nice!

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2003 Draft. Punchy sprucey/citrusy aroma. Slightly cloudy, pale gold; smallish white head. Strong hop presence works well with jackhammering citrus tongue. I usually shy away from pale ales, but this is damn good.

Bottle: Big nose for a pale ale. Citrus & pine. Nice clean brownish orange color. Good mix of bitter grapefruit and a little of a toasty carmel malt. Strong bitter finish that coats the tounge. A great pale ale. Better than alot of other brewers IPA's.
