4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Alextricity (177) - Chesterfield Twp., Michigan, USA - MAR 20, 2013
"Alpha King drink this beer all day!"
Well, I would if I had easy access to it. Anyway!
Appearance: A brown/copper color with a nice, bubbly, somewhat tan head. Lacing’s patchy, but it has a great, clear appearance overall.
Smell: What do I say? It has a brilliant malty and hop balance. On one sniff it smells of caramel sweetness, and on the next it smells of hoppy deliciousness. Extremely inviting.
Taste/feel: Just an awesome beer. The most dominant flavor that I get is of a quality, caramel malt on the start. The finish is super clean, and offers a burst of fresh hops. Not only is this beer pretty much perfectly balanced, it has an outstanding flavor. There’s virtually no aftertaste, which makes me want to keep going back for another sip. Alpha King’s a worthy flagship beer at Three Floyds, and one of my absolute favorite beers overall. I can only hope that they ship this stuff to Michigan some day soon.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Joakgust (587) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 18, 2013
Bottle, 355ml - Semi hazy amber beer with a moderate sized head. Aroma is fruity with notes of pine, citrus, grapefruit, caramel and pineapple. Flavor is fruity with notes of pine, oranges, grapefruit and some caramel. Body is surprisingly light considering the aroma. Great and very fresh APA.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Scrapersnbeer (980) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 14, 2013
Large grapefruit aroma, lesser caramel profile. Bitter citrus taste is just above moderate without going over the top, splits the difference between its style and a strong IPA type. Nice malt balance, though I’d be pressed to call it sweet. Hearty body that’s smooth yet filling.Good example of where traditional pale ales are going.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 joshmcg000 (203) - Iowa, USA - MAR 12, 2013
Pours a very hazy copper with white head. Aroma is Grapefruit citrus. Grapefruit, citrus, maybe even a little melon taste from the hops. Fairly bitter but not overly so, very refreshing, though its medium bodied. Lots of pine in the aftertaste in addition to the citrus. Caramel malt, almost taste rye, but maybe that’s just me, its a little spicy. Very Drinkable yet loaded with some very complex flavor. Great Stuff, and very unique.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Jabic (296) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 11, 2013
Ar: Spicy citrus, lots of grapefruit rind - some toasted caramel.
Ap: Orange, clear - medium off-white head with good retention - leaves a thin, but solid, cap of foam, with small chunks of lacing.
T: Candied orange and toasted malt up front - lots of smooth, juicy citrus, tangerine and pink grapefruit - spicy, a bit herbal - medium bitterness - very clean, with a nick light caramel malt backbone.
P: Medium body, medium-high carbonation - finish is dry.
O: Bright, fresh pale ale - absolutely delicious - great citrus flavor - and a wonderful balance of malt, just enough to give it some great character to contrast the hops, but without becoming too prominent.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lukaduke (1017) - Portland, Maine, USA - MAR 9, 2013
Pours a rich copper amber color with a two finger eggshell foam that sticks nicely. On the nose its a mix of rich caramel malt, pine and citrus hops... The palate is a lot maltier than I thought it would be. The hop profile is abundant but a little muddied by the heavy toasted malt notes and bitter finish.
