Snifter pour, reddish amber color with a finger of surprisingly thick beige head that lingers. Rich aroma of hops and a hint of malt. Delicious taste. Hops up front with a great malt follow through. Significant lacing on the glass. Medium mouthfeel with a nice hoppy bite.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Poured into my DFH IPA glass. No date stamp on the bottle, but I guess 3 Floyds doesn’t need one. Mildly hazy darker amber color. Nice big foamy off-white head, with excellent retention. Leaves excellent lace. Awesome big hoppy nose. Citrusy, tropical fruit, little pine. Very nice big orange zest aroma. Smells like a fresh, hoppy, balanced IPA. Flavor is just as awesome, but with a lot more spicy hop, and caramel malt. Amazing how assertive the hop is in this. Moderate to stronger bitter taste, light bit of sweet, some spiciness in the taste. Medium-plus body. lighter, kind of crisp carbonation, lightly sticky finish. So, regardless of style, this is an awesome, big bitter hoppy beer. Very sticky, resiny, and tasty. But I’d definitely lump this into the IPA category. It’s very big.

Good pale ale. The hops are pretty large with moderate bitterness that is a bit high for a pale ale. Aroma and taste is lemon, resin, and tropical notes with a dry bitter finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured 8/18/13. Medium amber color with a thin but resilient just off-white head. Aroma is potent floral, grass, citrus with more subtle pine notes. Straight forward; nice. Taste is highly floral, perfume-like; grass, floral, citrus, lemon zest, grapefruit rind, lightly alcoholic, slightly herbal. Nice lacing. Medium carbonation. Medium bodied. Fantastically flavorful and aromatic; truly top notch.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 18, 2013 12 oz bottle, undated but of very recent vintage according to the salesperson, served in a Belgian snifter.
A; Dark red-amber,definitely dark for style, with a modest size bone-colored head that has very good retention and lacing. Lightly hazy.
Smells unique, partly due to the unfamilair Warrior hops I suppose, with a very balanced and integrated aroma that reflects both malts and hops.
T: also, nicely balanced. A little less fruity, more herbal and a bit less bitter than CPA (see below), but as tasty overall, if a bit less intense, and perhaps even more easy drinking.
O: Excellent!! I had my first Alpha King immediately after an excellent Odd Side Ales CPA, and suspected it might pale (excuse me) by comparison. Well, it’s different, but similar in both sensory properties and quality. Glad I have more!
(revisited 2-3x now; surprisingly superb on all occasions)
