Bottle. Good caramelly hop aroma. Cloudy red amber colour. Very small off-white head. Good bitterness. Not so sweet, but sweet enough. Grassy hop note, quite caramelly and nice. A bit dry for my tastes, but good.

My most highly sought after beer for a number of years. Thanks to Cgarvieuk for bringing this one down from Scotland. Cheers Craig. Hazy reddish russet colour, thin beige head. Toffee and hop aroma. Yes big intense resiny grapefruit hop in the mouth. Wow that’s pretty big and awesome. Is it as good as I was hoping? It’s different. It’s big hoppy and toffeeish so very much in the American mould of an IPA I would say rather than an APA. Certainly tastes fresh on the hops. Yes very drinkable at same time. No real heat. Toffee is really quite pleasant. Good beer, but when you set your impression so high, it’s hard to live up to it. Thanks Craig. Now which beer becomes my most wanted now?

Bottle, 12oz. It pours a creamy, fingerthic, beige head over a well-carbonated, slightly hazy orange-golden body. Citrusy, resiny nose with a touch of tropical fruits. Lovely sugary, caramel-like maltyness to give it balance. Full-bodied, creamy mouthfeel with a delicious bitterness. There’s sugary, caramel-like, almost beef-stock like malty flavors to cope with the citrusy, resiny flavors from the hops. Lasting finish with good bitterness. A lovely beer, and maybe it deserves a higher rating from me, but I find it a bit on the sweet side for a pale ale. (090718)
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 argo0 (10384) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 6, 2002
UPDATED: OCT 7, 2003 (bottle - 10/7/03) Hazy copper body topped by small beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit, medium sweet, fairly intense bitterness. Still, the sweetness lends decent balance to the hops. Medium body. (draft - 7/2/03) Clear brown body with small off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet hoppy. Taste is hoppy (pine/grapefruit) -- going for broke and taking no prisoners. Medium body. (7/4/7/3/14)
