One of the easiest to drink beers. Great hop choices make for great aroma and hoppy citrus taste without the bitter after taste of an IPA.

This is a very solid pale ale, great looking, hop forward, closer to an IPA than most Pale Ales. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great aroma grapefruit and all. Way to bitter astringent, ok if it were and IPA or XXIPA. Alcohol heat. Not really a pale ale. Not what I expected.

Pours a murky copper color with white head. Huge citrus hop aroma and flavor. A little too bitter for me

Resinous pine and grapefruit juice aroma with some dank fresh cut grass aroma. Taste is slighly bitter grapefruit juice followed by a slight caramel and dry peppery cracker. Palate is nice and bubbly

Disclaimer: this review is more a rant/blog entry than a blow-by-blow version of tasting notes. The first time I had one of these it was 1999, the world was (relatively speaking) a happier place and Nick Floyd and his sons were just starting to make a name for themselves regionally, brewing in Hammond... and hadn’t yet turned into the arrogant, money grubbing bastards they are today. Times have changed and so has my palate. 16 years ago, this was one of the happiest beers available in the Midwest, today this is pretty mainstream. Still good (black pepper, crackers, citrus, solid appearance and palate) just not earth shattering as I remember it to be (amazing what progress in American brewing will do to perspective). I will say I like the old label better... wonder if they’ll replace with the statue of AK out front of the brewery with a comic book character version too.

So I finally found a bottle of this, Pale Ale my ass. It’s pretty darn colorful, nice reddish hue, off white head. Tons of aroma, grapefruit and pine mostly. Nicely carbonated and very smooth. Everything I have heard about this is spot on.

Stopped at the brewery on the way home from Ohio during spring break. Picked up a case of my favorite 3 Floyds - Gumballhead and split a case between Yum Yum and Alpha King. This is another great offering from 3 Floyds. Nice copper color, with a full head. The classic hoppy and citrus flavor common with 3 Floyds. Just another great beer from this brewery.

Bottle at Munich Tap House, 23rd March 15. Aroma is sweetish, floral hops. Taste is sweet malt, nice hop balance. Carbonation mid to heavy, a little too much for me. Nice APA, The Kernel do better though and Zombie Dust wins over this

At a tasting, thanks, small bubbly head, slightly hazy deepish orange color, aroma of pineapple, grains and shrubs with some jam, flavor of bread with some marmalade and a lingering herbal bitterness, with a metalic hint creeping in at the aftertase. Fair and drinkable.

(On tap @ Mikkeller Bar Stockholm, Feb 25 2015) Pours copper with a small dense off white head leaving lots of lace. Aroma is orange, lemon zest, fresh pine, grassy florals, faintly spicy and a little dank, TF house style for sure. Bit of a caramel backbone. Palate has a bit more caramel backbone, with pine, orange rind, lemon, herbal, a bit of white pepper from the middle on? Sweetish. Finish is dry and even softly sour with a fairly light astringent bitterness of orange peel and a spruce/cedar sort of character. A little grain. Lightish mouthfeel and average carb. A pretty good APA, but it’s definitely not as good as Zombie Dust, being a little less fruity and bright.
