Commercial Description:
Alpha Klaus is Alpha King’s cousin. A big American X-mas Porter brewed with English chocolate malt and Mexican sugar and of course tons of strange American hops! Cheers.

Bottle shared by decaturstevo. Poured black with a creamy tan head that has a thin layer lasting after it settles and left light lacing. Aroma of chocolate and coffee with a hop backing. Roast coffee in the flavor with chocolate and hits of hops. Medium body that is sweet up front and bitter in the end.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Dark dark brown with a big off-white head. Roasty aroma with plenty of malt and dark fruit. Robust flavor with lots of roast and some coffee. Tastes overly carbonated. Probably meant to be imbibed sooner than now. Flavor holds up pretty well though.

No shortage of creativity in this. This is a good porter but has the bitterness and aroma of an IPA. A really neat combination, combines to make a really good beer. Only downside on this, is that it seems a bit too thin.

2007 Edition, decided to kick off the holiday week of beer with a FFF Alpha Klaus. I was a little worried that this one sat too long but once I popped the top and the aroma of coffee and chocolate filled the air. Poured black with a beast of a head that overflowed my Corsendonk snifter. Aromas are coffee, roasted malts, and an underlying sweetness. Flavor is bitter chocolate up front highly carbonated on the palate and believe it or not hops are still present. Finish is all roast and a slight burn from the alcohol but no real alcohol flavor. A top notch porter. FFF does it again.

Pours a deep brown black color with a creamy tan head. Aroma is very strong cocoa, chocolate malt and a hint of spices with some floral hops. Flavor starts out with a sharp bite of dark chocolate and black coffee. Nice roasted malt and sugar character in the middle and finishes again like black coffee with cream and a slight bitterness but smooth. Medium-full body and low carbonation. Really nice porter and a perfect balance of sweet, bitter, and malty rich.

650 ml, thanks General Gao. Opaque with a humongous head that finally settles to a lasting disc of bubbles and leaves some crunchy lace. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, caramel and Play-Doh. Flavors are play-doh, acidic coffee, caramel, fudge, piquant mesquite and char. Medium body is acidic tingly, roasty dry and way too fizzy with carbonation. Some good flavors in there, but they get drowned in so much acidic roast, hops and (buuurp!!) fizz. Burp burp. Unmet expectations (burp).

Bomber at Xmas party from FFF haul. Pours black/brown with red hues, no real head. Nose is coffee. and lots of it, with mild chocolate and a touch of alcohol. Tastes of coffee and chocolate with a huge sticky mouth feel, moderate bitter, and some caramel notes. This a great porter.
