Aroma of hops, rioasted malt, chocolate, and slight coffee. Taste of hops followed by the roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. This medium bodied brew is very well balanced and quite taste. Great little twist on the Porter style. Great Brew. arrogantb (700), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 1, 2009 When I popped the cap and took a whiff I knew this was going to be very, very good. This beer was black with a foamy, mocha colored head. It wasn’t pitch black as some red tints could be seen if held up to the light. The smell was really sweet and enticing with a subtle aroma of roasted coffee beans. The taste, WOW! The taste was very chocolatey, sweet, roasty, coffee-like, amazing. The hops were also noticeable in the back and the aftertaste, almost minty. I have to buy several bottles of this when it is released, I can’t believe how good this was.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Pour starts off a bit weak, the liquid is dark with some red highlights, the head is disappointing. A crown forms with some good lacing which saves this from average territory.
Smell is good and robust, I can smell it with the glass a few feet away. Chocolate, Molasses, a bit of a hop background. Milk, cream, a light roasted scent are also present.
Tastes fairly different than most porters I have had, because there is a hop presence, but unlike gonzo porter which I felt was more a dark IPA than a hoppy porter, they intermingle rather well with the chocolate and creamy tastes, neither really overpowering, but working in a balanced fashion. Interesting and good.
Mouth is medium in body and carbonation. No complaints here. I realize it isn’t a stout, but I think this would be interesting in a thicker fashion. LilBeerDoctor (1492), East Setauket, New York, USA

Flavor of sweet malt, chocolate malt, some lactose notes. Pretty bland and boring really; I’m quite underwhelmed. Too sweet and not complex at all. Meh

This is exactly what an imperial porter should be.
