emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Mar 2, 2008 Thanks lb4lb. Pours a dark black allowing little light through. One finger creamy tan head. The nose was sweet, nice citrusy hop, not too much roast, light alcohol, some chocolate and a little coffee. A little bit more roast is apparent in the flavor with more pronounced coffee notes, definite waxy hop profile, some citrus coming through. Definitely some fruit in there. Waxy warming palate. Very nice Christmas brew. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Mar 2, 2008 Dark black pour, slightly pinkish-tan head. Bitter hops and coffee, roast on the nose. Surprisingly creamy fruity taste in addition to the expected chocolate/mocha notes. Thinner on the palate than expected. A unique and satisfying brew. Yum. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Mar 2, 2008 Dark brown with a normal off white head. Caramely aroma, a bit of hops. Flavor is caramel, tootsie rolls, charred hops a tad bit of hops. Finishes clean, carbonation fits well. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 29, 2008 A rather thin porter. Tasted more like a veg/herb than a porter. Really green topnotes kind of destroyed it for me. 17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 27, 2008 Updated: Dec 15, 2008Pours black with not a lot of head, small creamy mocha one. Wow, hops in a porter, great pine/grapefruit aroma on top of the roasted coffee malt. Sweet honey and salty crisp hops with a really nice back-end bitterness. This is a porter but most of the attention is on the hops. Not really what I want in a porter... but a damn good beer. 9 4 8 4 17. . . . . . . . . . . . Fresh 2008 bottle 12.15.08. Pours a thick black with a small frothy tan head. Strong green hop aroma, lots of earthy pine and resin, tea leaves and fertilizer, another 08 fall hop harvest beer with too green hops. Flavor follows, damn green hops, excellent roast and chocolate with a touch of coffee. On the sweeter side, go figure. Medium fluffy body that is a touch syrupy with sharp fluffy carbonation. 8 4 8 4 16
mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Feb 25, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2008Alpha Klaus is everything that a Porter should be. Very dark with a nice chocolate head. The aroma is slightly hoppy with remnants of coffee. Tastes just as a porter should. Hopps, coffee and chocolate.
This is a fantastic porter. crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany Feb 23, 2008 Pours a deep reddish black with with a really nice lingering tan head. The aroma is mostly of roasted chocolatey malts, with a bit of burnt sugar in there. The flavor is pretty similar with the thick, bold roasted maltiness really dominating, but in a good way. The mouthfeel is velvety smooth - very nice in this regard. Overall a really solid brew, maybe the best porter I’ve had. ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Feb 23, 2008 Aroma is quite roasted, a bit earthy, caramel, vanilla. Tastes rich and roasty w/ some coffee. Hops give a nice clean soft bitterness. Silky smooth but could be slightly thicker.
