The aroma is mostly of roasted chocolatey malts, with a bit of burnt sugar in there. The flavor is pretty similar with the thick, bold roasted maltiness really dominating, but in a good way. The mouthfeel is velvety smooth - very nice in this regard. Overall a really solid brew, maybe the best porter I’ve had. ketchepillar (478), Viña del Mar, Chile
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Aroma is quite roasted, a bit earthy, caramel, vanilla. Tastes rich and roasty w/ some coffee. Hops give a nice clean soft bitterness. Silky smooth but could be slightly thicker. hillfiiiiire (284), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is beautiful roasted chocolate malts and plenty of a hops presence that is definitely not overpowering. The flavor is slightly charred flavor, some coffee and chocolate. Pretty great. So smooth going down. I wish I had more of this to drink. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 20, 2008 Pours a beautiful opache black with a thick frothy tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, pine, sugar and grapefruit. The flavor pretty much mimics the aroma only with the malts making more of a statement. Finishes a long dry hoppy/coffee/chocolate. Medium to large bodied. kseecs16 (873), Naperville, Illinois, USA

Rich chocolately malt aroma with a faint hint of hops. Rich creamy dry roast flavor, slight char, and the hops again just a hint I did not find them to be too forward just a nice compliment. Rich, full bodied with a dry finish. Nice. AmEricanbrew (1808), Doing Rogue, Louisiana, USA

Medium bodied. Semi sweet chocolate and toasted malt flavors go down very easy. Finishes with a big Douglas Fir hop burp. Very tasty. 101705 stoutchap (297), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Pours deep brown like rootbeer with a tight bubbled head that dissipates to a halo of a head. Nose is rich and complex, with the aroma of coffee, chocolate, and unidentified cola like influence. The flavor is quite smooth, with a smokiness in the front, followed by a sweet coffee and light smoke. The finish is palate cleansing dry, slight bitter hops. The mouthfeel is quite creamy and smooth.
