Commercial Description:
Alpha Klaus is Alpha King’s cousin. A big American X-mas Porter brewed with English chocolate malt and Mexican sugar and of course tons of strange American hops! Cheers.

1400th rating! Bottle shared with HogTownHarry and GregClow -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark brown with an average size foamy light-brown head. Aroma: Wow, that smells awesome! Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, lots of earthy hops -- just wonderful. Flavour is an interesting and flavourful combination of hops and chocolate that works really well. Medium to full bodied. This is really friggin’ good stuff and definitely one of the best Porters I’ve had the pleasure to have. Thanks for sharing Harry!

Bottle (650ml - 2005 vintage). With blankboy and GregClow, my bottle via trade with kmweaver. Thick, opaque black with a decent creamy beige head. Lovely roast malt/resiny hop aroma ... like hot cocoa with marshmallows, coffee and floral hops - somehow it works. Taste - yummy - like swiss milk chocolate and tons of hops. Solid body for a porter, almost oily, nice lingering astringent hops, restrained alcohol presence, a pleasant shifting malt/hop finish, left a milky coating and aftertaste on my tongue. Really, really good stuff.

Bottle. Pours a dark, cloudy brown, with very little brown head, with a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is floral, coffee, malt. Flavor is chocolate, floral, coffee, caramel. Palate is more to the medium side, some stickiness, low carbonation. Good porter.

Wow! This nose was immediate, Hops MAN! I cannot nail down the hops here, there is coffee and chocolate. nose is hoppy like an IIPA. Brown head with exquisite lacing. Brown body. Mouth feel is surprisingly light, again, more like an IPA. There is some chocolate in here, but the hops are all over it. The after taste has the coffee and bitter chocolate, but again, sweet sticky pine hops. For the life of me I have NO IDEA who got this for me???? But I liked it more as it warmed and I drank more of it.

22 oz bottle: This beer has a deep dark color and a very rich texture. The head is creamy but dissipates soon. Although I enjoyed the beer I felt that some of the ingredients were contrasting, apparent both in the aroma and flavor. The citrusy cascade hops and English chocolate malts seem a strange combination so it takes awhile for my taste buds to adapt. However, once your senses catch up with the complexity of this beer it ends up being quite enjoyable.

22 OZ bottle from shigadeyo (Thanks!). This one is a dark brown/almost black with a massive tan foamy/sparkly/spidery head. Took a full 5 minutes for the head to recede to an ’almost’ drinkable level in my pilsner glass!Nose is mostly roasty malts, some chocolate and vanilla and some citrus hops. Flavor is pretty much the same, with lots of hops coming through in the end. Overcarbonated.... Thin/Medium body. This is a hoppy, flavorful easy to drink porter. Unfortunately, i do not care for so much hoppiness in my porters....
