EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Oct 13, 2006 Bottle. Strong chocolate nose, light hops and light roast. Pours utterly opaque, pitch-colored black with a dark brown lacing head. Crisp and delicious (and very strong) roasted bitterness, chocolatey. Very bitter and surprisingly salty finish, taste lingers for years. Hugely hoppy with a hint of coffee, though that’s largely due to the roast. Harmony! Full-bodied with occasional notes of sugary sweetness and puckering sourness. This one really has it all! waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Oct 10, 2006 bottle. Bought in 2005 and saved it for now. midnight black with huge head. nice lacing. Aroma of coffee, big sweet chocolate, sugar, mild dark fruits and hops.
Big time chocolate especially as it warms, coffee, sugar, very slight smoke, nutty, roasted malts and hoppy. lively palate. sugar chocolate int he aftertaste. I was expecting some xmas spicing but there was none nor was any needed. Great brew. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 9, 2006 (Bottle 65 cl) Completely black and opaque with a handsome and frothy, light brown head - sort of shaving foam style. Aroma of roasted malt and vanilla. Fairly light body with notes of lightly burned malt and also vanilla in the flavour. Dry, burned, lightly bitter finish. Pleasant. 061006 rdawson321 (145), USA Oct 8, 2006 Porter is my favorite style. As such, I’ve been looking for this beer for a very long time. Imagine my excitement at finding it! Alas, my $9 bottle of anticipation failed to live up to my expectations. Super fizzy with a HUGE head, it was fairly bland and unexciting. Little chocolate, little roasted malt, slight bitterness.... a real let down, and not worth such a long search. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 Bottle.
Black coloured with a beige head.
Roasted aroma of coffee and chocolate.
Roasted flavour of coffee, chocolate and hops. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Sep 29, 2006 22 oz bottle thanks to sprinkle. Dark pour with huge foamy tan head. More than half head and I poured very gently. Aromas of chocolate and spice. Lots of burnt malt flavor and more holidayish spices. Hoppy and dusty finish. Pretty good. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Sep 28, 2006 22 oz. bottle. Black with a big bubbled but stable brown head. Big chocolate and hop aroma helped by caramel malts. Thinner in body than expected. Excellent and well balanced flavors of chocolate, coffee, caramel and hops. Well made beer. pbjclimber (150), Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 13, 2006 Pours a very very dark brown with a fluffy tan head that has good lacing. Flavor is of chocolate with a nice coffee mix with a little caramel. A bit of bitterness is also present. This is well balanced and a great beer.
