COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alpha Klaus is Alpha King’s cousin. A big American X-mas Porter brewed with English chocolate malt and Mexican sugar and of course tons of strange American hops! Cheers.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2014 Bottle (2012), with thanks to Drew. Pours a deep ruby black with a medium brown head, creamy with nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, cigarettes, chocolate, rich. Flavor is the same, lightly sweet, roasty, coffee, chocolate, touch of ashes, medium bitterness. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Things really come together nicely in this beer. Not getting much individual character from whatever "strange" hops were used due to the age, but what this has become is downright awesome. Definitely one of my favorite imperial porters.

Pours nearly pitch black with a little light on the edges and a fluffy brown head. Nice roasty malt on the aroma, milk chocolate, caramel, nice floral hops, and something I assume is the mexican sugar. Super toasty taste, toffee, strange brown sugar note, caramel, and a nice citrusy hop finish. Not bad, the sugar adds a really strange taste. The strong hop character is really well balanced.

From a 22oz bottle, poured very dark brown medium head. Smell malty, slight chocolate with some hops. Taste some chocolate, licorice, hops slight vanilla. A very different type of porter but in a good way. Liked it a lot.

Bottle 22oz. Pours black with low-medium head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, mint. Taste is of chocolate, dust, roasted malt, some "fresh" feeling. Palate: Light-medium body. Overall: Nice roastiness. Kind of black IPA’ish. A good beer.

Bottle (22 oz). From Randall, thanks! Dark brown with a medium beige head and some lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, minty nores, vanilla, light vegetal notes, chocolate and liquorice notes. Taste is slightly sweet with minty notes, vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and herbal finish. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Silky mouthfeel. Good balance. Nice Porter, but also almost a Black IPA. Tasty.

Pitch Black Color, Huge Foamy Head That Lasts Forever and Leaves Decent Lacing. Nice Fruity Hop Aroma, Reminds Me of Passion Fruit. Unexpected Since Porters Don’t Smell Like It. I Guess This Is Part of that "It’s Not Normal" Slogan That is Printed On Its Label. Taste of Toasted Malt, Faint Chocolate that barely Shines through Strong Floral Hop Bitter. Medium Body. Hides ABV Real Well. Not Your Classic Porter For Sure. Interesting. Enjoyed It. Recommended...

Pours a dark brown with a small offwhite head that offers good lacing. Aroma is of minty hops and spices, feeling fresh and light. Taste is sweet, full of spices, chocolate and roasted malt. Body was medium, maybe a bit on the light side. This isn’t your typical porter but it has a good american character (just enough so it doesn’t become a black IPA) to it and is really just fun to drink. Nice!

Want to know how to balance the rich, dark flavors of chocolate malt w/ American hops? Look know further than this beauty. One of most balanced beers I’ve ever tasted with every flavor working together, yet standing out on its own. I could drink this all day.
