carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Jan 22, 2006 pours with a mocha like frothy head, has a nice coffee aroma. Is very smooth on the palate, near perfction for a porter. I will make sure to pick up more next season! sfontain (506), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 21, 2006 Small sample at beer tasting at From The Vine in Lewis Center, Ohio. Very unique: Appears black with a small, dark brown ring. Aroma is nearly the same as espresso; some chocolate and light smokiness. Flavor of coffee, ash, and chocolate. Thick, sticky, and just the slightest bit overcarbonated. I can’t detect much hoppiness in this but by this point in the tasting I may be getting a little numb to the hops. ehhdayton (1113), USA Jan 20, 2006 The aroma of chocolate and dark fruit are initially present. A roastedness comes through after a few more sniffs. The color is a deep black with a long lasting tan head. Initially the flavor has a dark chocolate taste and finishes with a roasted bitterness. beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA Jan 19, 2006 Couple of different tastings. Dark brown pour with a decent head. Big chocolate and hop aroma, and some coffee, but not a whole lot of roastiness. Roasty malt flavors were more present, and with the chocolate and coffee and just the right touch of hops gave the beer a very pleasant flavor. Medium bodied for a porter, and very drinkable. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 19, 2006 22 oz bottle, via Drnk McDermott. Almost black pour, some dark mahogany highlights around the edges. Perfect creamy light brown head with some visible carbonation. A perfect looking Porter. Heavy chocolate nose with coffee accents. Slight hints of alcohol and yeast. Lots of roasted flavor and bitter cocoa balanced with sufficient hops. Finish is dry with some burnt malt astringency and alcohol. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, and a somewhat astringent and mineral finish. An above average Porter for sure. A little higher hop level than most but it works for this one. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jan 19, 2006 "Poured darn brown thin head. The aroma was of tiny bit of hops and chocolate. Flavor was of chocolate roated malts and tiny bit of pine. Very creamy mouthfeel." wheninhell (485), louisville, Kentucky, USA Jan 15, 2006 dark brown with light brown head. great chocolate coffee aroma with a surprising amount of hops. the first time i have ever had a hoppy porter. creamy coffee chocolate goodness on the palate with a lovely balanced dose of hops. one of my favorite porters. wintersdying (49), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jan 15, 2006 pours light brown head. nose is especially hoppy for a porter. this smells incredible! palate is a wonderful blend of coffee, chocolate, hops, and heaven. by far one of the best porters i’ve ever had. i usually write more in my reviews... but this stuff is too great to detail it into oblivion. go find this if you love porters (as i do)
