CDBrDisappear (6), Kent, Ohio, USA does not count Jan 11, 2006 Flavor that stands out in a crowd. Most distinctive porter that I have tried. There is certainly a strong choclate malt presence but I think it’s the hops that give it the character. Tastes good enough to have another. TomDecapolis (3127), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 10, 2006 So it’s a little past Christmas but I figured I didn’t feel like waiting around until next year so I popped this one open in mid January. Pours a dark brown with some red when held to the light. Medium size rocky yet creamy tan head that a bunch of lacing down the glass. Great looking beer with a head that looked great and laced nicely. After it settled the head became more creamy and consistant. Aroma is of surprisingly orange and piney (from the hops I suppose), chocolate, coffee and maybe some roasted malts. Really kind of a sweet yet fruity aroma. Really liked the aroma on this one, it reminded me of some of the various aromas I picked up in various other Three Floyds beers I’ve had. Flavors of the same I’m picking up some pine in the flavor as well as a bit of the coffee and chocolate. Maybe some smoke at the tail end of this one. A hoppy porter may be a good way to describe this one. Overall this one was smooth with a really nice aroma and a great taste. Piney burps coming as I drink this bomber. CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 8, 2006 This is a great porter. I think I prefer anchor or stone. This was a little light on the flavor...should have been bigger to keep up with other 3 floyds seasonals.
acertain (249), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 7, 2006 2004/5 bottle. While the aroma definitely strengthed as it warmed to room temperature, I found it pretty subtle. Piney hops, coffee, alcohol in the aroma. Medium carbonation that dies pretty soon giving way to a moderate to full mouthfeel. Taste is mostly of smoky malts, with citris/bitter/sour notes overlayed. Mostly balanced with slightly bitter/smoky aftertaste. I found this to be solid, but not stunning. cdog69 (28), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 5, 2006 draft at brewery
Hoppy, roasted nut, and chocolate aroma. Brown foamy head sits ontop of this, dark as coal, brew. Roasty bitter flavor with some notes of chocolate and wood. Medium bodied with low carbination and a creamy mouthfeel. Smooth drinking porter with nice hop balance/flavor. MrWalker (927), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 4, 2006 Bottle @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm Big hoppy aroma with a bit chocolate in background. Big body heavy on chocolate and cappuccino. Medium sweet and some citric notes from the hops. Filling and a long bitter, pleasant aftertaste. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 3, 2006 Updated: Jan 4, 2006(650 ml bottle at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Black with brown edges, rich tan head. Vibrant yet soft hop aroma as usual from 3Floyds. Notes of green, piney hops with notes of roasted coffee and toffee. Flavour starts smooth and roasty before the well-intigrated piney hop flavours sets in. Cotton-like mouthfeel. Clean, but still vey dynamic and vibrant aftertaste of the fresh, green, piney hops with the sweet roasted overtones of mocha and coffee. This is a very nice porter! RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Jan 3, 2006 This beer has an aroma that is a hearty combination of roasted malt and hops. It is a black liquid that is crowned with a light caramel colored head. This beer is not too thick or too thin. It flows through the mouth smoothly producing a mild tingle on the tongue as the taste of hops is left to linger.
