biermensch (64), USA Dec 20, 2005 A Floyds approach to porter. Tastes strongly of chocolate malt, but with the usual Floyds signature hops. I would have preferred more of a lasting head. The coloring is true to syle, the taste maybe not quite traditional, but delicious nevertheless. The alcohol is not at all apparent, and I applaud the use of Mexican sugar (I love it in Coke from south of the border). While not a huge fan of the sytle, I could get used to drinking this ale every winter. Alemale (5), Madison, Wisconsin, USA does not count Dec 20, 2005 Bomber. Very dark pour, little head. Chocolate and coffee malty taste with a beatiful blend of strong hops. I love hops, so I love this porter! julrey (32), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Dec 19, 2005 Bottle undated, presumably 2004 vintage
Pours syrupy black with virtually zero head retention.
Nose is super pine cone hops overpowering virtually all other aromas. Really, this one smells like nothing less than a freshly squeezed Xmas tree. And to my senses that’s a good thing.
The body has a nice heavy gravity to it, sliding down the throat langorously like carbonated molasses... only a slight exagerration, but the enthusiasm brought about by this beer encouraging a bit of truth stretching.
The hops aren’t nearly as dominant on the tongue as the aroma, but still marginalize the other tastes. The actual taste of the hops used is quite excellent, however. A fine, if nearly exquisite, example of what I look for in a Christmas ale. High marks all around 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Dec 17, 2005 Updated: Dec 12, 2006Bomber. Pours to a deep dark black body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is very hoppy and portery. Chocolate malts and PNW hops. Churros. The flavor is pine hops and roasty coffee and nutty chocolate. Very smooth and balanced. The palate is smooth, medium-full bodied and bitter. Nice feel. Very delicious. can8ianben (903), Pasadena, California, USA Dec 17, 2005 Nice! Smooth dark and full of hops. Its got a lot of punch, big smokey robust flavour, but also very fresh hop backing. Its a perfect blend of a big IPA and a smoked porter. Nice! Interesting! Louipa (121), USA Dec 17, 2005 Coffee stout flavor, hoppy, a little dry.
Its pretty good you’d almost think its a stout. As far as porters go this is 2nd only to fullers london porter. (tastes nothing like it though) hezron (600), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA Dec 17, 2005 Aroma of chocolate and coffee and then the hops hit you. Lots of piney-hop aroma and it smells pretty good. Practically black with a light brown head that thins. Nutty, roasted coffee flavor initially but agian...the hops jump in and take over. Very fruity with hints of apricot and peach, the hop flavor just grows and grows. Medium body with a chalky finish, it is slightly bitter. This is like "light dark lord." DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Dec 16, 2005 Thanx to Matta for sharing.Pours black with a coffee nose.Looks like and smells like a typical porter, but oh the taste is much better.Coffee and chocolate with some burntness, oh hell yeah
