swatskee (17), Ohio, Ohio, USA Dec 13, 2005 Great aroma upon opening an poring. Chocolate & hoppy nose with great lacing tan head. deep opal color does the trick just as a porter should be. Quite a hoppy nose and taste equally balanced with a malty, nutty chocolate taste with a unique hop lingering taste that makes your taste buds go crazy!. True this great porter is a bit hoppy for the style, but i will let it slide as it IS a hoiday beer and as we all know, they are usually a little bigger than usual. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Dec 10, 2005 Decent coffee and some hop aroma, though unassertive. Pours a deep black with a nice head. Flavor has a nice malt profile with chocolate and lots of coffee coming through but is masked by overbearing hops that don’t quite do the trick. Really too hoppy for a porter, unfortunately. A nice beer, nonetheless. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Dec 10, 2005 22 oz bomber: Dark brown, almost black w/a short lived tan colored head. Citrusy hop aroma w/ a some burnt coffee roastiness. Also a bit of a sweet piney smell. Semi sweet chocolate as well w/ a hint of fruitiness. Toasted malt and brown sugar notes. Well balanced overall w/a bit of bitterness @ the semi dry finish. Herbal hops in the finish, but citrusy hops up front, alcohol, a bit of a burnt roasty flavor, un sweetened chocolate, and a bit of smokey cherry flavor.Medium body, well hidden alcohol, low medium carbonation. Not a bad beer, but a bit to heavy on the hops for my personal taste. Then again, most everything from 3F’s is very hoppy!! antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Dec 8, 2005 Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a dark tan head. The coffee aroma dominates. The flavor is full of coffee and chocolate with a nice hoppy finish. Can these guys do anything without hops? I’m glad they can’t! I look forward to trying the bottle in my cellar next year to see how it improves. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Dec 8, 2005 Dark, dark brown with a tan head. Chocolate and coffee malts dominate, but lighter tastes are abundant as well: burnt toast, carmel, espresso, cashew nougat. Hops are crisp at the end, but the taste is submerged by the malt. That is not to say the finish is muddled, rather, the hops simply play second fiddle to lighter malts and a thick spiciness. Mouthfel is full-bodied, bordering on frothy. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Dec 7, 2005 On bottle thx hopscotch) Very black and a ver thick beige head. Amazing aroma; loads of the burnt coffee and chocolate, but even better, a overtone of burnt or slowly made strawberry jam. heavy, fruity and sticky. Fat mouthfeel, very coffeeish, with toast and bready flavours. Stil there´s a strange and vibrant fruity lash, almost like green apples. the finish is extremly dry and roasted; more coffee here. The hopping only can only be found whilst burbing. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Dec 4, 2005 Updated: Jun 10, 2007Black pour, small tan head. Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Very creamy and easy to drink porter. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 4, 2005 Courtesy of MattaA at the First Annual Florida Ratbeer Gathering.

This had been aged a few years so the hop element was toned down, but still much more lively than an average porter. Piney hop notes with chocolate cake and coffee in the aroma. Foretaste is roasty followed quickly by dark chocolate and espresso and then a kick of hops int he finish. Reminds me a lot of Gonzo Imperial Porter.
