nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Mar 22, 2009 Pour was dark brown and black with a mocha head. Aromas of sweet malt, hops and cocoa. medium light body and very smooth. Flavors are lovely with roasty malt, molasses and chocolate. Very easy to drink. Finish is sweet and light hoppy bitterness. One of the better Porters I have had. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Mar 20, 2009 From StFun via trade. The pour was dark with ruby on the fringes. A thin tan head formed and created spots of lacing. The aroma was sugary chocolate, roasted malts and some light citrus and floral hops. The flavor was milk chocolate, roasted, smoky malt and some light citrus hops. It sounds like I’m describing more of IS, but it really tasted like a porter with hops on the finish. The mouthfeel was almost full in body, very easy going down. blutt59 (2045), Dallas, Texas, USA Mar 14, 2009 bottle, pitch black color, a little brown foam, aroma of leather, hops, bean curd, coffee, flavor is great mix of coffee, chocolate, some praline, hops are hidden until the finish oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Mar 6, 2009 Pours death black with nice tan head. Aroma is coffee, molasses, caramel, roast, coffee, chocolate, and the slightest hop presence. Every aspect of the style is covered. Flavor skirts the line between porter and imperial stout. Roast is most evident, though sweet molasses and caramel make their way in with vigor. Balance is exceptional. Palate is thick, rich, and savory. Three Floyds comes though with another delicious sample. Jblauvs (533), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Mar 6, 2009 Black pour with dissipating pour. caramel, chocolate hints, dark fruits in the nose. hint of hops. Excellent presence in the mouth, robust roast and fruit. chocolate and a hint of mocha along with some slight date/prune hints makes this a porter for the ages. craftycarl21 (513), South Hero, Vermont, USA Mar 6, 2009 pitch black pour, not quite as viscous as a stout, with a small tan head. Aroma is heavy with roasted malt, coffee, caramel, with a slight citrus hop presence. Flavor is excellent- lots of roasty malt, definite hops, and a classic porter aftertaste. Really nice smooth palate, really good porter. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Mar 1, 2009 22oz bottle from drewbeerme, thanks Andrew. Very dark pour with just a little glow when held up to the light. Chocolate aroma, a little smokey. Get some coffee and more smokiness in the flavor, a little bitter as well, this is really good. ceffalo (38), , Texas, USA Feb 28, 2009 Snifter. Aroma is malt, hops, sugar. Black color with dark tan head that’s really nice. Carbonation is obvious.
A rich, smoky, hoppy, malty flavor. Really nice balance with a nice subtle taste of smoke in the end, like a good porter. I usually don’t hold with porters very much but this one is very good.
