| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Nov 22, 2004 Black with a tan head. Strong dirty floral hop aroma with a Tabasco note, and oh yeah one other note is present PINE. Tastes like the beatings I received on national gift day as a child from my brothers, like having your ass beat with a pine tree is somehow a good thing with this one however. If you’ve ever been forced to drink the water that a tree has sat in for a while than you will recognize that quality in this beer, and surprisingly, I want more. Finish is dry and oakey, a fantastic beer. marcus (1918), Sacramento, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 21, 2006 This dark brown ale poured with a 2 finger tan head. There is a very pleasant chocolate malt aroma and a creamy and slightly carbonated mouthfeel. The malt and hops are so well-balanced that neither is dominant, and the large dosage of both results in a full and satisfying flavor. This is a very well-crafted version of the porter style. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 21, 2007 2006 bomber. Black with a whopper of a brown head. The head disintegrates rockily, making for a very pretty beer. Big bitter chocolate and coffee nose, a bit roasty, some citrusy grapefruit hop components. Big bitter chocolate and grapefruit flavors, softly malty. SAtin mouthfeel. Excellent. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2005 When he handed me this bottled, Cornfield made sure to point out the phrase, "It’s Not Normal" on the bottle... and, boy, was he right. Aromas were confusing... starting with a flagrant, burnt-bitter-coffee, covering pine, chocolate and raisin. Further pours elicited solely intense pine-hop aromas. End of the bottle went back to malts. Crazy. The beer was pretty-lookin’, with a deep, dark, red/brown body under a sizable, fluffy tan head that eventually ended in an oily film. Good balance in the flavor, with black coffee and dark chocolate, ending on a spicy, bitter note. Full bodied and rich, with an oiliness in the mouth. I put some extra points on for all the confusion... then took them back off to make it even more confusing. Ha!

Coffee, Chocolate, Citrus, and Floral taste, the hops are nice and balanced. I was expecting it to be good, but not this good. jeffc666 (1899), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2003 Very dark with a small tan head. Almost looks like a stout. What an aroma! Tons of hops. Bigtime grapefruit. The flavor is tons of chocolate and grapefruit hop. Based on the aroma the chocolate was a surprise. Full and creamy body. This is the be all end all of all porters. iowaherkeye (1893), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 9, 2005 Updated: Jan 29, 200622 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a nice-sized, creamy tan head. I smell a little pine, and lots of chocolate and roasted malts. Large amount unsweetened chocolate and some piney notes. Nice and creamy in the mouth. I know there’s a lot of hops in this, but I think they may be a little masked by the chocolate, because when I’m burping, all I taste is pine. Considering the rating, I was expecting a little more--maybe I just had my hopes too high.
