Commercial Description:
Alpha Klaus is Alpha King’s cousin. A big American X-mas Porter brewed with English chocolate malt and Mexican sugar and of course tons of strange American hops! Cheers.

2006 Bottle. Pours a deep lack body with nice head. Aroma is of cocoa-chocolate, light coffee, sweet malt, and some faded hops. Flavor is lightly sugared with roasted malt, light chocolate, and some subtle hops. A light coffee and cream taste. This is a good Porter, very smooth. This may be better consumed fresh.

Bottle from Paul. Thanks buddy. dark brown with small tan head, very carbonated and big bubbles. Aroma is very alive with chocolate and hops as is the flavor. Lots of grapefruit hops covered in chocolate. Alcohol noted, but not bad. I think this would be better suited as a Black and Tan.

Tasting session at jbrus. Bottled. Opaque black, thick brown head. Very malty nose, chocolate. Highly carbonated, coffee in flavour. Bitter finish. Lacking some complexity imho.

22oz bottle 9/16/09 (Binny’s Naperville)-Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of hops, rioasted malt, chocolate, and slight coffee. Taste of hops followed by the roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. This medium bodied brew is very well balanced and quite taste. Great little twist on the Porter style. Great Brew.

Pours near black with reddish hues. Aroma of chocolate malt, chocolate, and spicy pine cone hops. Taste is dark and malty with plenty of chocolate. Mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty tasty, but I was not amazed by this beer. I think there might be a little 3F bias going on ’round here.

On bottle thx hopscotch) Very black and a ver thick beige head. Amazing aroma; loads of the burnt coffee and chocolate, but even better, a overtone of burnt or slowly made strawberry jam. heavy, fruity and sticky. Fat mouthfeel, very coffeeish, with toast and bready flavours. Stil there´s a strange and vibrant fruity lash, almost like green apples. the finish is extremly dry and roasted; more coffee here. The hopping only can only be found whilst burbing.

From a 22 oz. bomber bottle, Christmas 2005 release. Poured a nice deep, black coffee with a brown foamy, fluffy head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing. Aromas of pine, earthy and citrus hops, grainy and a subtle chocolate. Good porter carbonation, maybe even a little high for a porter and a crisp, slick, velvety smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Tastes of burnt coffee and grain, bittersweet baking chocolate, molasses, piney and grapefruity hops, high bitterness for a porter, but actually balanced in relationship to the malts, the alcohol is well masked, but warming in the palate, and a dryish grapefruity, roasted malty finish. This was much better than what I was expecting, held up well, makes me want to try a fresh sample, a good porter with the Three Floyds twist on the style, highly, dangerously quaffable.

big thanks to boltz7555 for the bomber!... the first pour on this sucker is ridiculously huge!... we’re talking one inch of beer and five inches of foam... finally settles to reveal an opaque black shade of reddish brown capped by a hot cocoa colored head. smells really floral... brown sugar, sweet roasty grain, molasses, fruit, cream, wood, herbal/hay/straw and some chocolate. it’s a bit faint but it smells great. flavors abound... coffee, ashy/astringent grain, wood, black cherry, a touch of chocolate, earthy spice, grass and boozy vapors. harsh ashy, sour and astringent finish (i like this!). it burps up pine and grass in the aftertaste. medium body, prickly acidic mouth feel from over carbonation. dryness parches for quite a while... thanks j!
