BlackForestCO (549), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Apr 22, 2008 Bottle thanks to yem25, thanks Ryan. Poured a deep brown color with a thick beige head that held nicely and left some webby lacing. Aroma of light chocolate, toffee, a hint of roast, and citrus hops. Interesting. Lightly tart citrus entry mellows out into a smooth, lightly roasted chocolate that ends with a bit of chalky bitterness to compliment the hops. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Definitely an interesting brew, I like that they tried something different. Not sure how often I could drink it though. Thanks again yem.
Magic_dave6 (4000), London, Greater London, England Oct 7, 2008 Bottle at chris_o’s pre beerexposed tasting. Alround rating: Roasty bitter porter, citrus, lemon. Not really my style, but drinkable enough. BMan1113VR (905), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 3, 2008 Bottle thanks to zathrus13. Pours with a large, light breown, creamy tight head with a black or extremely cloudy dark brown body, with awsome lacing and good retention. Aroma has nice alcohol, creamy chocolate, light coffe grounds and some ripe fruits. Taste is chocolatey and toasty with roasty coffee notes, slightly flowery and fruity aswell (similar to Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter). Mouthfeel is lightly creamy with somewhat lively carbonation. Some light coconut flavor appeears when it warms, well hopped. Very smooth taste, which is better than the harsh coffee grounds of a normal porter, but not quite as decedant as the other Imperial porters I have had (Black Butte XX and Decedance 2007). thewolf (3959), Kolding, Denmark Oct 2, 2008 Bottle @ Chris_o’s Pre-Beer Exposed Tasting, September 2008.
Pours completely black with a small, creamy, film head. Aroma is softly sweet, good maltiness, good hoppiness and lots of coffee. Nice, dry mouthfeel. Flavour is great. Lots of dryness, chocolate, good hops. Coffee and cocoa in the finish. Very nice beer. Sparky27 (587), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Sep 24, 2008 Bomber courtesy of StFun. Pours an oily dark black with mahogany hues and a billowy 3 finger tan head and slippery lacing. Nose is roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate and some dark fruit hidden as well. Taste is ashy toasted malt, black coffee, powdered cocoa and some bittering hops in the finish, but the coffee lingers more than the hops. Smooth, creamy mouth feel. Very good porter – thanks Josh! Beerman6686 (780), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 28, 2008 POurs a very very dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is very dry and lots of roasted malts with some semi sweet chocolate mixed in. Flavor was just silky smooth rasoted coffee beans and nice caramel and chocolate notes. I put this up there with Edmund Fitzgerald anyday.
