3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 rxeight (480) - Illinois, USA - MAR 19, 2013
Bottle that has been in my cupboard for over a year. I had fresh and thought it was very hoppy, almost black IPA like. Tried this bottle aged. Completly black pour. The hops are gone. Left behind a dark stale malt with a bit of licorice and tar. Tastes like an english style porter. Not a fan of these porters without any sweetness. Fairly thick

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Uhlen (186) - Trondheim, NORWAY - MAR 2, 2013
Oily black pour with a good creamy tan head. Aroma of licorice and roasty malts. Some smoke. Rich mouthfeel. Suprisingly balanced. After smelling it I was prepared for a licoricebomb, but the tastes blend well. Licorice, some wood, leather and roasted malts. Good indeed, though not as crazy as expected.

18th November 2011 Opaque black beer, good tan head. Nice fruity nose that also has a whiff of wood and smoke. Crispy semi dry palate. Good hops - strong pine and nice citrus. Rich dark malt and dark chocolate. Lactose and coffee. Trace of tangy red berry fruits. Minerals. Strong red berry fruits and pine in the finish. Comes over like a fine Black IPA, lovely!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Brandman (1456) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 31, 2013
Pitch black body, brown head. Aroma is very complex and has nice sweet roasted malts with some dark fruits and chocolate. Flavour is even more complex with some acidic, but still sweet dark malts, piney hoppiness, some hints of smoke and chocolate. Really nicely balanced and overall really fullfilling beer.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 ryecatcher (375) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 30, 2013
From notes on a bomber I drank in 2011: Being a Tolkien geek, I picked up on the Mount Doom reference right away... pours dark, good head, mouth is coffee, oranges, smoke, tobacco (mainly Copenhagen snuff... which during my youth in the Army, I use to dip a can a day of), malt. Bottle art and name are better than beer itself. Not my favorite 3F’s brew by a long shot.
