This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” Cheers! 100 IBU 11.0%ABV (used to be 9.5%)

Bottle at BCTC 2009: Golden pour with an off white film of head. Very piny aroma- pine bomb with twiggy vegetal. Slick astringent vegetal flavor. Heavy pine with a citric twang and heavy herbaceous twiggy vegetal. Eh.

Bottle at BCTC. Pours a light hazy amber with a thin white head. Big citrus and pineapple notes. Flavors are slightly reminiscent of the ocean, which is a touch puzzling. Finishes with a big hefty bitterness.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2009 #78 for this beer. 22oz bottle. Slightly hazy dark gold with some faint hints of orange color in there. The head was slightly off-white that was very clingy, lots of lacing. Lots of citrus, almost like pure zest citrus, very floral as well, nice. Light bitterness, more grapefruit, very smooth, the lactose gives this a very different flavor, again quite smooth, milky smooth I guess you could say, not bad, just strange.

Pours orange with a small white head. Aroma is all pine. The flavor is sweet, citrus, and floral with a nice sweet malt and lactose backing. Very easy to drink for a DIPA.

Bottle. Pours a nice golden yellow with a thick white head. Aroma is sweet with a strong hops pressence. Notes of citrus, grass, pine, and honey jump out. On the palate, it is smooth and creamy, really drinkable. The finish is nice and bitter. Different than what I would have imagined, but very good. It really grew on me as it went down.

Bottle with sashanovkov, from Sam’s on Clybourn. Poured a bright gold. Really gold... it looked like it was putting out its own light. Standard IPA aroma, hoppy with citrus. One of the more interesting IPA’s I’ve had. You could tell there was something milky in it, but it wasn’t gross like I was expecting. Instead, it complemented the beer very well. Highly recommended if you’re jaded with bland IPA’s.

Bottle. Vibrant clear orange pour, little carbonation and a very sweet herbal/floral aroma. Flavor was very sweet/syrupy/creamy hops, plenty of malt, citrus and plenty of warm alcohol on the finish. Very good, but I still prefer the FFF Dreadnaught more.

unbalanced & hard to drink, very viscous & imho... please keep the lactose away from all i.p.a.’s

7/23/2009: Apocalypse Cow is amber-colored, mostly clear, and has a diminishing, off-white to light beige head that leaves thick lacing on the glass. Honey malt, light citrus, and some pine resin come through in the soft aroma. This beer tastes sweet with plent of pine and spruce hoppiness layered on top of the light caramel maltiness. The sweetness of the malt and lactose nearly offset all ofthe bitterness though. This medium-bodied beer is very smooth and mellow. Overall this is an interesting beer. There are some unique characteristics imparted by the added lactose, but I would have liked more bitterness. This beer is probably best on tap and is quite sessionable except for its hefty price tag ($12.99+tax/bomber)!

Tap. The beer pours to an amber gold body with a nice haze and glow. Thin white head. The aroma is peaches and pine. A flavor of sweet juicy fruit hops. Palate has a bitter kick.
