22 oz. bomber from Big Red Liquors in Carmel, IN. Slightly hazy yellow with a foamy white head. The aroma smells big with strong sweet malt and spicy hops. Those both pop up immediately in the flavor. The spiciness of the hops is incredible to the point it’s almost like there’s hot chilies in it. The initial sweetness rolls into a green pepper/vegetal taste. The alcohol keeps the heat going through to the end which is blazingly bitter. Definitely a hop lovers beer with just enough balance to make it palatable for those who aren’t yet hopiphiliacs.

Bottle. Pours cloudy bright orange. Quickly disappearing head. Nose is sweet grapefruit and citrus. Lots of hops. Taste is thick. Sweet with then lots of hop bitterness. Numbs your tongue. Lasting bitterness. Delicious!

Keg at CBC2012, from some old notes. Rich amber, white head. Powerful resinous aroma, bit of tropical fruit and mango. Big mouthfeel despite medium carb. Flavour is big sweet toffee then huge fruit punch, tropical mango flavour, then big candied tropical fruit finish and big bitterness.

Pours a light golden opaque yellow with a big white head and plenty of lacing on glass. Full citrus aroma. Taste, malts with hints of citrus and resin. Overall a good IPA that I would drink again.

My Bottom Line:
This powerfully leafy and resinous Double IPA also develops oranges and grapefruit for a simple but massively hoppy experience.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A dollop of foam stays atop the hazy pale amber.
-The lightly biscuity malts are only there to support the hop onslaught.
-This is not as refined a product as their Dreadnaught, for example.
-Residual sugars are relatively low, which I appreciate.
-The mouthfeel doesn’t appear to be force-carbed, which is great. And drinkability is high despite the high alcohol level.
-The sugary citrus fruit are quite prominent in the finish, alongside the salient bitterness.

Bottle.

(On tap at Mikkeller Bar Stockholm, Nov 16 2014) Pours a lightly hazy dark orange, slightly brownish hints, white moderate head that leaves lots of lace. Aroma of mango, citrus peel, resiny pine, a touch floral, lots of sweetish bready caramel malt in support of a big hop core, Munich maybe? Flavour has pineapple, stone fruit, citrus peel, flowers and lots and lots of hop resin. This leafy hop cone flavour persists in a sticky finish, but there is a nice big caramel and light rye bread type malt core to hold all the hops. Ends quite dry with a big astringent bitterness and a bit of alcohol heat. Medium full, sticky beer with fairly light but prickly carb. Really balls-out sort of bitter resinous DIPA but with lots of fruit and malt to keep it pretty reasonably balanced nonetheless. Really easy to drink and quite tasty, booze quite in check, only the scalded palate reminding you not to get carried away...

Apricot orange in color.... Aroma of tropical fruits, mango, peach.... Flavor is bursting of peach, apricot, and tropical fruits, notes of caramel malts, but dominated by fruity bitterness... Dry pine and citrus hops on palate... Superbly good ipa ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a big hoppy bitter DIPA. Pours a murky apricot color with a frothy white head. Aromas of spruce, resin, and a faint bubblegum. Flavors of pine, flowers, with a massive bitter finish. This is great because it is not overly balanced with malts, it finishes strong leaving the palate dry and hoppy. Nicely done.
