3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Add more crystal. Itís a straw color, weird for a IIPA. Ample white head that fades fairly quickly. Thin layer left over with a small amount of lacing. Big hop aroma, although not as much as the Dread had. A sweet aroma of burnt sugar, almost caramel scent. Floral notes with a slight grassy aroma. Very nicely done. Way more balanced than the last one. But that isnít hard to do.
Again, a big bitter bite up front. Almost acrid. After that is a sweet sensation mixed in with ample hop flavor. A bit of a citrusness. The mouth feel is a bit less dry than the Dread as well. But there is a bitter dryness on the back end. A bitterness envelopes the tongue and sticks around until the next swallow is down the gullet. Then it just repeats itself. Not very carbonated, but a big carbonic mouth feel. Not warming despite the ABV. Then again, Iím still reeling from the Dreadnaught. I wish I could write more about this beer as it is pretty good. And a worthy daily drinker. But there isnít much more to say than it is a bit of a smaller Dreadnaught. Of course, there are different hops in this one making it almost stand on itís own. Not sure if this is supposed to be a winter warmer, although it is less ABV than the year round Dreadnaught, but it doesnít seem like it. If it were cold out, I would pick Dread over this. Although there seems to be some spices mixed into this one as an afterthought. At least thatís what Iím getting in the taste. Not much mind you, but ample enough to perceive that they may be there. Although it could be the spiciness of the hops used.

One of my favorites. Tons of grapefruit/tangerine in aroma and taste. Super bitter, but with enough tropical fruit to easily even it out. Definitely not west coast, but easily one of the most complex IPAs Iíve had.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured at the Three Floyds Brew Pub. Beautiful pour with a medium two finger head. Aroma is fresh and crisp. Hops, pine, citrus, grass all hit the nose. Taste is balanced and refreshing. Just the right amount of carbonation. Hides the ABV well. Nice hop balance on the palate. Mouth feel is good with a nice amount of hop with a thin malt finish. Another fantastic brew from Three Floyds.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber poured into plastic cup. Hazy orange with some foam and lots of lacing. Aroma is citrus hop, pine, and a hint of caramel malt sweetness. Taste is similar with brief biscuit and caramel sweetness replaced quickly by pine resin and citrus rind bitterness. Oily mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, dry finish.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, courtesy of olr1984 Ė thanks! Pours a dusty golden orange, with a thin bit of creamy sand-colored head. Nice legs, good retention. The nose is undoubtedly 3F IIPA; strong citrus and intense florals with a solid malty sweetness. Intense flavor is sweet and strong citrus, light florals, and caramel malt. Really nice malt integration with the powerful citrus. Resembles either a barleywine or rocket fuel, take your pick. Comparable to Dreadnaught, but it doesnít quite get to that level for me. Still, excellent and Iíll gladly have another when I get the chance.
