22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan / light brown head. Aroma is very complex with dark chocolate cake, light roast, chocolate liqueur, caramel and light licorice - oh man is this rich. Flavour does not disappoint, bringing out the best of all 4 blended beers, with deep roasted malt, dark chocolate, some liqueur and caramel. Amazingly complex, rich, deeply layered, with the perfect amount of sweetness, balanced beautifully by the roasted notes and some noticeable hop character. Pretty much no burn from the near-14% ABV. Absolutely gorgeous. This is seriously one of the best impies Iíve ever tried.

This came in a snifter at the LOCAL BEER Bar in Eureka, CA courtesy of Darren the proprietor. It was tasted side by side with the Dark Lord 2012 which I brought. Poured black in color with a tab head and moderate lacing rings. Nose of roasted malts withe earth tones, and lots of chocolate and floral hops. Some booze in the aroma. Medium body and an alcoholic mouthfeel. The flavor is kind of disjointed, with chocolate and coffee, and again a lot of floral hops . The finish moves to bitterness with a continuation of the chocolate and coffee, Very intriguing beer but despite the great beers involved, each individual beer is better than the combination. The whole is less than the sum of its parts.

Bottle at CBCís First Birthday Party. Cheers to Ken for busting this out! Deep brown in color with no head. The nose is rotten cherries cooked in brown sugar, some heavy malty roastiness and boozy chocolate dessert. The taste is intense chocolate cake and booze. Deep accents of woody vanilla and spice. Intense, full. Viscous. Quite good!

Bottle shared at Craft. Opaque black brown beer. Big pale tan head. Smooth palate, a little dry. Mild carbonation. Mellow but rich dark malt with mellow coffee and chocolate cake. Mild aniseed and subtle fruits.

Poured into a snifter. Big thanks to SteveFinny for this. Not sure what to expect from this as DL is hit or miss, Darkness is too hoppy for me fresh, Black Albert sucks, and Beer Geek Brunch is pretty good. 4.0 A: Black color. Two fingers of tan head. Itís mostly frothy, but thereís also a creamy component. Retention isnít bad given the massive ABV. Decent sized ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: This smells mainly like Darkness and Black Albert, but it ends up being quite nice. Deep roastiness. Tangy caramel and earthiness from the DL and BA, respectively. Formitable citrus and herbal hoppiness from the Darkness. Coffee in varying degrees from all of them. Chocolate in abundance from them all. Booze is well hidden. Overall though, this is closer to Black Albert than any of the others, but perhaps an improved BA. 3.5 T: The taste is even more like BA. Earthy and almost minerally. Quite hoppy as well. Supple roast, bitterness has some strength to it. Chocolate, tangy caramel. Light coffee. Booze is pretty well hidden again. Itís lacking integration of flavors to an extent with the earthiness not meshing well with the hops, which never really works well in a stout. Despite all this, itís not bad. 3.5 M: Heavy body, perhaps too heavy. Itís almost like drinking booze yogurt. A little too chewy. Reasonably creamy though. 3.5 D: I doubt Iíd buy this if it were a shelf beer, so $30 for a bomber is clearly a ripoff. FFF cashes in on beer geeks like no other. If only their beer was a good as the hype. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-13-2012 00:49:33

Black nutty chocolate, coffee, roast and hops, intense fruits. Flavor is molasses, rich biscuity malta, sugar, chocolate, booze, roast, coffee, hot alcohol, moderate acrid burnt harsh malts. Bitter sweet finish. Rich. Odd malt flavor. Not special but strong if you like that.

Pours a thick black with small brown head. Aroma is very malty, assorted chocolates, dark fruit, licorice, and roast. The taste is much like the nose, very rich and sweet but not cloying. Silky mouthfeel, oily texture, and full bodied. This is damn good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to Beerman6686. Pours a deep black with a tan head. Nose is dark chocolate, roasted malts, some peat, some earth, and maybe some vanilla. Flavor is similar- dark malts, roasted malts, earthy coffee, peat, and a bit of bitterness. Full in body and forcefully earthy.
