3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 masonjer (608) - Holt, Michigan, USA - APR 22, 2012Thanks Adam! Pours black with a tan head. Nose is chocolate, rum cherry, caramel and a bit of roast. Taste is more caramel, milk chocolate a bit of cherry, a bit of tartness, all flavors are very well integrated leading to a nice long finish. Hops are still involved but take a backseat, nice complexity overall though. Not super thick but lots of flavor, quite good overall.

6th October 2012 Opaque black - brown beer, good tan head. Nose of mild wood. Palate is smooth with mild fine carbonation. Mild wood and mild bourbon, vanilla and coconut. Mellow bourbon spice. The cherry is pretty subtle. Finishes semi dry with a little alcohol warmth.

Big thanks to Randy and JR for breaking this out. While the cherries were pretty subtle, both in the flavor and aroma, the barrel qualities weren’t. Big woody notes and hints of bourbon. Opened right before the BA Plum.

Suprisingly great stuff here. Oak, cherry, cocoa, vanilla. It isn’t medicinal, no tartness, and no barrel aging flaws.

Courtesy of Matt. It pours mahogany with thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up modest levels of crusty molasses covered chocolate brownie, dark roasted malts and a bit of cinnamon graham cracker. The taste is smooth and starts with dark roasted malts, melted and velvety dark chocolate, chocolate brownie and then some boozy barrel notes. Well in the back of the experience are mild notes of cherry juice sweetness. Solid.

750 ml bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks again, Dan! Bottle 293/400. Looks the same as the Plum version, with a deep amber pour capped by a small tan head. Really nice color. Aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, coconut, and sweet cherries. Flavor of bourbon, cola, caramel, brown sugar, charred oak, and more sweet cherries. Medium-bodied, with a fruity, sweet mouthfeel and medium carbonation. People expecting more tartness from the cherries will be disappointed, but the sweetness works here. Still, I’d give the edge to the Plum version.

Thanks to the kind soul who shared this at the recent Tampa Tasting. Pours a dark porter brown with an off-white head. Nose is roasted malts, some vanilla, wood, bourbon, and chocolate. Flavor is similar- chocolate, roast, bourbon, wood, vanilla, and some earth. Medium in body and a nice beer overall, although not a lot of fruit.

Bottle shared at Matt’s tastint, poured a bllack color, aromas of cherries, booze, chocolate, light coconut and some roast. Flavors followed suit, decent amount of cherries and booze in the flavor.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hopscotch (8242) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 23, 2012
Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, beige head. The aroma provides chocolate, coconut, toasted oak and a whisper of cinnamon. Much like the BA Alpha Klaus with Plums, I’m picking up no fruit here. Medium-bodied with laid-back carbonation. The flavor furnishes sweet fudge, espresso, toasted coconut and bourbon. As with the bouquet, I’m not picking up any cherries. Sweet, roasty, chocolaty finish. Like the BA Alpha Klaus with Plums, this is an excellent treatment of a great base beer. Also, like the BA Alpha Klaus with Plums, the hops of the base beer are dumbed down, but this remains an excellent treatment. Thanks go out to landhoney for generously sharing this world class beer with the south Florida crew!

Bottle. Seriously?? I don’t think anybody at the tasting could tell the difference between this and the regular BA Alpha Klaus. Conspiracy theories were abound.....
