Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a small brown foamy head. Aroma of black chocolates malt with light roasted malt and plenty of residual sugar from the Sauterne barrels. Taste is also asset mix of black chocolate with some light roasted malt and nice sauterne notes with plenty of residual sugar notes. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Nice drinkability with just the right level of complexity – I would love to have this on a more regular basis.

From notes. Enjoyed this baby at a line share at Witch’s Hat on St. Patty’s Day. 2013 vintage, 22 oz bottle. Uncle Rudi opened this one, and was it a mess from the start. The pour is a dark brown with a light tan head. There is a little bordering on black, but it’s not really close. There isn’t any lace as it falls down, but this is probably the best thing about the beer. The aroma is heavy on the wine. There is a wet barrel happening, and a strong hop that Blot Out the Sun does. Seems more like a messy Black IPA to me. There is a little dark fruit, and some roast. The taste is much of the same. A wet wine barrel with Black IPA stuff going on. There is a light bitterness that’s mostly offset by the sweetness of the wine. The woodiness and roast are pretty decent, but the fruits are bright and grapey. The mouth feel is watery and incredibly thin. There is a light, crisp carbonation that makes this jump off the tongue. I suppose I’m glad I got to enjoy the tick, but I didn’t like this one very much.

Bottle shared with koleminer20, Gus, and others. 2013 vintage. Aroma is barrel, earthy hops, dried fruit, roasted malt, nice. Appearance is dark dark brown, light tan head. Taste is barrel, very sweet, dried fruit, sugar, roasted malt, strange. Mouthfeel is heavy, light carbonation, lots of barrel in the aftertaste. Overall, it’s a weird one but decent.

Bottle... Pours Dark Lord-black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The aromatic standouts here are brownies, cinnamon and a fruity liquor or liqueur. Medium to full-bodied with a 2%-milk mouthfeel and airy carbonation. The flavor is lightly sweet and chocolaty, also offering a rumor of liquor warmth and a whisper of oaken acidity. Finishes roasty and a touch citric with a hint of cinnamon in the lengthy aftertaste. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!

Opaque black brown, minimal tan head. Molasses, light cinnamon, raisin. Light orange sweetness. Some bitterness. Heavy, somewhat present alcohol. Long finish. Pretty oily. Good.

Enjoyed on tap at Kaiser Tiger in Chicago, IL waiting to try out some Dark Lord. Appearance is pitch black, cola like, thin white rim. Aroma is rich in brandy, chocolate, oak, smells great. Taste is pretty good, not knock your socks off good like the non-barrel aged, but good nonetheless .
