Sampled at DLD2013. The base beer is one of my favorites from FFF. Pours a rich dark pour with a small tan head. Aroma is focused on coffee and bourbon, with some roast and chocolatey notes. The aroma is quite nice, well focused on the, well, the bourbon and coffee which is why we are here. Flavor has a lot of coffee and bourbon up front, with touches of dark chocolate and fudge chocolate notes. Strikes a nice balance between the bitter and the sweet with the sum of those parts. Medium bodied, somewhat slick on the palate, medium finish with coffee and bourbon.

At the draft station at DLD 2013. Pours a deep, opaque brown with an initial finger of tan head that settles into a thick lasting ring. Bourbon and coffee right up front, with dark fruit late. Fudge, vanilla, and roast in the middle. Medium-bodied, with a roasty mouthfeel balanced my some sweetness. Moderate carbonation. Enjoyed this one quite a bit.

Draft on tap at Dark Lord Day 2013 (Munster, IN). Nice! Pours a rich blackish opaque pour, dark and rich, a frothy brownish head atop dies down, laces ok. Aromas are coffee, roast, and vanilla. Gentle spirit, black cat coffee, and toffee. Gentle sweetness. Nice presence, not overpowering but tasty. Initial is medium bodied, rich coffee, roast, and java. Mellow roast, fudge and vanilla. Toasty, a thinner middle with some fudge, rich coffee, vanilla and some espresso elements. Middle is roasty, rich Intelligentsia coffee flavors, roasty and fudgy, some earth, roast, and rich java. Some creaminess, mellow yet glowing barrel. Vanilla, roasty, coffee. Good flavors, a touch thin but the barrel really works well here. I think it was just thinner to begin with. Tasty. The nose has lost a step in the barrel but it really held up much better than Iíd have expected.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2013 Draft at DLD 2013. Fantastic aroma strong with coffee and Bourbon. Nice oil slick on top with good lacing. Despite the sunny day, there is no seeing through this monster. Palate is too light and falls way short of expectation, but still a very solid beer.

Draft at DLD - black with creamy light brown head. Nose is espresso bourbon. Smooth. Woody. Super dry. Complex. Sipper of a beer.
