lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Jan 11, 2009 2008. Pours mahogany. Some nice floral aroma with peach and cherry, some pine hoppiness, bread, caramel, and roasted malts. Slight alcohol aroma present. Lots of caramel flavor with intense citrus hops, slight earthiness, and some fruitiness. Extremely smooth, and the palate is far less sticky than I expected. Nice. mnurda (434), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jan 5, 2009 Huge body on this one. I knew I would like it the minute I poured it. 2007 bottled sample from the brewery. Can’t wait to get another bottle Ethereal (1500), London, Greater London, England Jan 1, 2009 Bottled at Chris O’s tasting, 26th Sept 2008. Reddish orange with a strong candy sugar aroma. The robust malts hide the hops and the taste is quite salty. Palate is ok but overall I found it rather disappointing. gowdy (155), Ferney-Voltaire, France Dec 29, 2008 Bottle at Craigs house. caramel, floral, brown, light sweetness, light body, sticky, cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Dec 29, 2008 Bottle at home ... leaving me only 2 more to complte my top 50 beers with 250 ratings...2007 bottle ... deep copper big foam head ... big sweet american hop with a fair ammount of malt in nose ... big sweet piney citrus hop ... lots of caramel ... light vanilla ... warming soft spirit ... medium bitterness... soft carbonation ... Think this would age wonderfully. nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Dec 27, 2008 2008 purple wax bomber. Luscious aromas of sweet caramel malt , and citrusy hops. Super smooth and full bodied. Initial flavors of sweet maltiness, and then the upfront hop bitterness kicks in. These deep flavors do not go away soon and last in your mouth for a good long time. Excellent balance of complex flavors. Intense fantastic Barley Wine. hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Dec 27, 2008 From a 22 oz bottle with a purple wax top (2008) that took a while to pry off, this poured a clear and simply gorgeous deep amber color with a slightly off-white head and thick and sticky lacing rings. The nose is caramel malts and vanilla, but powerful. There is also lots of hops in the aroma with pine, flowers, citrus, and ripe fruit. Very rich and mouthfeel. with moderate carbonation. Flavor is a mirror of the nose, and is delicious to drink. Long bitter finish and it hides the alcohol well. One of the best Barley Wines ever. kegbear (265), Orange, California, USA Dec 25, 2008 Bottle 2008 Purple top. Aroma of caramel, grapefruit and pine. This is a nice barley wine with a lot of hop flavors. Caramel, malt, vanilla and grapefruit and pine.
