Pours deep amber with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, citrus, a floral hops. The flavor is exeptionally smooth, sweet caramel, citus, and a good amount of floral biterness. The alcohol is asked amazingly, and this brew is perfectly blended. Excellent brew. GreatLibations (1441), Last Supper, Arizona, USA

This gluttonous pig pours headless and with just a sparse lace but never mind that. The mucus that spewed forth was as thick as beaver vomit after a long day of dam building. Thick I say. The color is a bit hazed and amber/apricot. Strong aromas of acidic bile, caramel, and citrus. Like I said this is a thick and viscous brew with creamy carbonation. Bacon fat decadence, chewy caramel from a candy bar, aged citrus meat, old boot leather. This brew is surprisingly balanced. I can’t believe I said that. The finish has a strong peach pit bittering component that digs in quietly and is only revealed after the medicine goes down. This is very generous and keeps on giving even after the bottle is empty. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2008 Drank alongside Victory Old Horizontal and Lagunitas Gnarly Wine. Pours golden-red with small head. Scents include grapefruit, roasted malt, sugary syrup (label says caramel and molasses) and a surprising abundance of hop bitter. Taste is similar. This is a barley wine masquerading as an IPA. Nice balance and full body. Overall, a great beer, but I think the dominant hop characteristics kill the subtleties found in Old Horizontal. ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 6, 2008 2007 bottle, The aroma is totally dominated by the malt with some caramel. The color is dark amber. There is a caramel, creamy mouthfeel with a hint of hops. The alcohol is very well hidden but you can feel the warming inside your body like a shot of whiskey. This is one of the great ones, would buy again davidpl (435), Santiago, Chile

Appearance: amber copper to mahogany color. Little and beige head.
Aroma: an incredible, exquisite, lasting and complex hoppy aroma (although some rare for a barley wine) with notes of menthol, eucalyptus, pine, herbs, cedar, mints, etc…Malty and complex fruity smells like figs and plums in liquor. Liquory touches similar to cognac and whisky. Others floral aromas like chamomile.
Flavor: ephemeral malty start. Exquisite, resinous, intensive, lasting and complex hoppy taste with grass, mints, eucalyptuses and pine reminiscences. Alcoholic dry notes like bitter-liquor and “bitter-Araucano”; also, other sweet liquor reminiscences like cognac and whisky. Bitter-fruitiness like stone-peaches and peel-grapefruit and sweet-fruitiness similar to oranges, pink-grapefruit, peaches, mangos and papayas. Light spicy touches like cinnamon, nutmeg, red-tea and chamomile. I haven’t more words for describe this marvel taste.
Palate: medium body, smooth texture and light carbonation.
Remark: incredible aroma and taste, with own-character, complex hoppyness, etc... I believe that this beer is a new sub-style beer, maybe a “hoppy-barley-wine”.

Pours a slightly hazy bold amber color. Head is medium to small, off-white and diminishes rather slowly, leaving a film and a thicker lace around.
Aroma is initially very hoppy, intense and powerful with a perfumey character. Notes of rhubarb, cedar, maple wood, straw. Big flowery notes come afterwards accompanied by piney, resinous touches, cherries and a huge backbone of caramel malt. Enticing. This can’t be bad.
Intense, strong flavor, surprisingly well balanced between malty and hoppy profiles. It feels initially bitter with quite a lot of IBU’s, but each sip reveals new things. Oh, it’s so complex! Cognac, unblended scotch Whisky, fruity liquors and digestivs. In the back, huge amounts of cereals, caramel, peanuts, nougat and even some tropical fruit salads. Mango, Guayabas... I feel like in Easter Island again. The finish is so intense it overwhelms your entire body.
The body of the beer is huge, feeling like a dense syrup. Full mouthfeel with low to mid carbonation. Good alcoholic presence with a punch that warms you. You could drink this naked in Alaska and you wouln’t feel the cold. The aftertaste is godly and lingers forever. I drank this yesterday and I still feel it.
My God, it’s over already! My first extreme American Micro. Unbelievable.
