4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Sikash (179) - North Carolina, USA - FEB 7, 2013
Big sweet malt aroma with notes of pine, fruit and orange. Flavor is initially very sweet with a big malt character that finishes with a dry bitterness and a dark fruit note. Mouthfeel is full carbonation is average. Overall a delicious beer.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 timc100 (314) - Park Ridge, Illinois, USA - JAN 30, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 31, 2013 [2013 vintage]Massive beer! S: Huge fresh, pungent, resinous hop presence - big resinous pine, orange peel and mango fruits. Through the overwhelming hops there are lots of rich, sweet caramel malts. A: Pours a dirty blonde and sits a dirty, clear ruby with a sticky creamy beige cream head. T: Incredibly sweet hops and malt - big citrus fruits and caramel. It’s on the verge of being cloyingly sweet but balanced by a notable tartness. P: Full and sticky, and lingers like no other. Mouth feels coated in wax. O: Absolutely fantastic. A huge beer with tons to offer. Have another sitting in the cellar, cannot wait to see how it ages! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPone

Poured into snifter at brew pub. Smell of sweet malt, caramel, toffee and slight hints of vanilla. Pours a deep, cloudy reddish/brown. Beers coats the tongue with flavors similar to the smell but also with a bit of raisin/plum. Also has some sweet booziness at the tail end. One of the best barley wines for sure.

Great hoppiness with this barley wine balanced with an excellent sweetness. Enough hops to make me happy!

65 cl bottle vintage 2009 @ O’Hara’s Freehouse. Rated on 08.02.2010
Aroma is rather hoppy with lots of exotic fruits, some caramel and biscuits. Flavour is also rather hoppy with lots of fruits, some caramel, biscuits, raisins and distant herbal notes. One of the best barley wines I’ve had – quite close to a DIPA actually.
65 cl bottle vintage 2009 @ Beer Hunters, Pori. Rated on 02.06.2012
This one has turned from DIPA into a barley wine. A real caramel overdose on aroma and flavour. I liked it more fresh, harsh score estimate: 3.8.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dpjuart (974) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 25, 2013
Last bottle from ’08 trip to FFF in Munster. Shared with Nate. Pours amber red with orange hues, egg shell/off white, fluffy, rocky, pillowy head. Great lacing. Peppery, caramel nose, brown sugar. Classic barley wine. Well balanced malt with an abundance of bitter lingering. Mild hop flavor, but you can tell it was there. Some fruity notes, slight lemon, orange, cherry, grapefruit.

Bottle (22 oz). Traded by totoropanda, thanks! Clear amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt, alcohol, pine, caramel and hops. Taste is about the same with alcohol and malt being even more present. Heavily sweet, but the strong alcohol is doing a good job keeping the balance despite the fact that the hops have faded. Lots of warming alcohol. Heavy and harsh body. It’s a good Barley Wine, but it doesn’t have the same level of complexity than the best of the style.

Bottle. Clear copper gold pour with white head. Meaty, malty aroma, strong whiffs of alcohol, hops, caramel. Taste is malty, biscuity, caramel, light menthol, good finishing bitterness. Rich creamy palate, nice alcohol warmth, maybe the strong point of this beer.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 maekchu (1126) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JAN 3, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 5, 2013 Bomber. Red wax. 2012 vintage. Thanks to mike12da. Huge hop and caramel nose -- the maltiness grows on each approach. Dark honey, with a creamy tan head. Massive malt on first sip; perfect balance in mid, with some stewed peaches and pie; finishes in balanced fashion, with some lingering bitterness and chocolate notes. Medium-heavy body. A great one!
