tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Aug 5, 2009 Clear amber pour, off-white head. The nose is very hoppy, citrusy, with caramel and fruit. The flavor is grapefruit, caramel, light fruit. Wierd. this is more like an IPA than a BW. A very good IPA, but an IPA none the less. The finish is again a citrus hop bittering, residual fruity sweetness. Nice thick syrupy mouthfeel. VERY enjoyable beer, but not my favorite BW. I tend to like my barley wines to be darker, thicker, more fruity, less hoppy. joeneugs (289), Livermore, California, USA Aug 2, 2009 07 bottle release. Pours dark amber brown with a small brown head. Huge caramel, toffee, rum, raisin aroma. Smells thick and malty with a hop presence in the background. The flavor is big time fruity sweet with cherries, apricot, raisins, plums, chocolate, caramel, and toffee. The tartness of the beer sets in next with the cherry flavor taking the forefront. Then the piney bitter finish. Very thick body with powerful flavors that are all in harmony. This is a great barleywine. It’s why I love barleywines actually. The sweet and sour flavors complement eachother like in no other beer I’ve had. thebeertourist (2751), Oslo, Norway Aug 1, 2009 2009 bottle from De Bierkoning. Deep amber, clear with a yellowish, creamy and lacing head. Complex hoppy aroma- at first just grapefruit, then more floral notes as well as the bready maltiness appears. Good bready and hoppy flavours, citrus, warming alcohol, caramel. Full-bodied. Complex and well-balanced in all its extremity. Wondeful. HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 1, 2009 2007 bottle. Poured a dark, clear amber with almost no head. Nose is floral hop forward with lots of fruity esters and alcohol. Medium to full body with soft carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor is very sweet and fruity with a solid caramel backbone. Lots of malt and floral notes. Finishes sweet with lots of warming alcohol. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Jul 31, 2009 Time to catch up before BCTC. Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Throwdown. Thank to everyone who brought great beer and ribs and pickles and everything! Medium dark orange. Ripe orange in wood box aroma. Toasty caramel biscuits with arangy hop bitter finish. Sticky. Adenila (931), Denmark Jul 26, 2009 Blue Wax bought at Ølbutikken. Clear orange look with a thick baige head. Lots of grape and pine in the aroma, which got me exited, since i usually dont like Barley wines withaout loads of hops. Along with the hops comes some sweet caramel/toffee notes, rye and nuts. First flavor impression was very complex yet very drinkable. Complex sweetness, good amount of hop bitterness and warming alchohol. Sticky palate. Awsome!
