CBC. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, alcohol and rather hoppy - fruity. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. 110512

2012 vintage (red wax). Copper pour with an off-white head. Sweet caramel, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Nice hoppy aroma of grapefruit, flowers, and pineapple. A fair amount of booze, however. Very nice sweetness and bright hop flavors. Grapefruit, pineapple, and oranges to go with light pine and floral notes. Sweet caramel, brown sugar, and dark fruits. A hint of alcohol on the finish.

Well-balanced, but definitely leans towards the hop. In fact, this may be the hoppiest barley wine I’ve ever had - certainly the driest.

Gut! /10/9/9/12/10

2009 bomber from Archer Liquors. Pours lightly hazy amber with a four finger beige/tan head. Aroma seems pine over sweet malt. Medium body with medium carbonation. Malt is strong. Hop bitter is citrus? Heat is minimal, given the abv. Head does some lacing. Might be a bit toffee towards the end. Pretty well balanced finish. Bitter and sweet all at once. Pretty impressive.

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2007 (Draught) Pours a medium brown with a medium-sized beige head. Had a wonderful array of fruit flavors and caramel. Alcohol was nicely covered by the abundant flavor.

Bottle. Pours a clear ruby color with a huge creamy off-white head that would not diminish and produced excellent lacing. Second most attractive brew I have seen. Heavy complex aroma of roasted malt , molasses, citrus and brown sugar. Medium to full body with a thick texture. Good flavor with heavy sweet and bitter and a long finish. Great brew for number 800.
