Bottle 05- Pours a dark crimson ruby color, decent sized off white head. Aroma is huge grapefruit, like ocean spray juice. Pine needles, lemons, caramel, and watermelon jolly ranchers. Flavor is big and hoppy, more grapefruit, caramel, pine needles, and fruits. Smooth on the palate with a nice alcohol kick to it that compliments the brew.

Garnet colored pour with little head retention. A huge wall of citrusy hops seep up and out of the glass. On closer inspection, notes of jungle fruits, plums, toffee and brown sugar intermingle with the classic FFF hops perfectly. The body is full, balanced and a real drinker at 10.5 ABV. Creamy mouthfeel. The nutty, sweet malts melt into a perfectly balanced, bitter finish. Wow, I just wish I had a few bottles in the cellar.

a BIG thank you to silphium....this was a gem...beautiful cherry red appearance with minimal off-white head...aroma is initally a slam of hops, citrus and grapefruit notes....flavor is AMAZING...a huge inital offering of cherry flavors; add spice, other fruit notes, caramels, and a great aftertaste of mild hops and subtle bitterness....perfect smooth palate....THREE FLOYDS RULES

2007 bottle (Yellow Wax). Pours a dull copper color, capped with a small khaki head that dissipates quickly. Beautiful aroma, with loads of hops, toffee, caramel, molasses, grapefruit and honey. Flavor is caramel for an instant, then resinous hops take over. Grapefruit, herbs, tobacco and honey round out the palate. Hops resins cling to the palate for a long finish. Medium bodied and silky smooth. Nice b-wine, but I wish it lived up to its aroma.

Bottle from Santa. Hazy aber in color with small of white head. Aroma of caramel, hops, and alcohol. Taste was very malty. Very hoppy with some sweetness. Sharp, hoppy, alcohol finish. Rich and chewy. I like my barleywines alittle more sweet and alot less hoppy.

2006 bottle. Sure doesn’t seem like a barleywine to me! (Though it isn’t bad) A ruby ruddy red brown, light for the style with a thin light head. The nose is big with grapefruit, alcohol, slight leather and vanilla, and mixed tropical fruit in syrup. The mouthfeel is low on the carbonation, a bit sticky, but not too thick. The flavor is definitely 3F. Sweet, but not round caramel, big grapefruit, alcohol, a bit toasty. The malt reminds me of a less caramelly Brian Boru, while the hopes remind me of Pride and Joy. I think this beer could use some oxidation... I’ll come back to it with some age on it.
