sampled with the phoenix crew. graciously provided by rustychiles... 2007 bomber. pours a dark honey color with not much for a head to come out and greet me. extremely sweet aroma... brown sugar, floral hops, cooked orange peel, grass and very light pine. the flavor is the same... far too cloying and sweet on the palate without the hoppy back-up dancers. it dries out a bit (only a bit) on the finish as the wall of alcohol hits. the alcohol isn’t all unpleasant and actually lends some spiciness to break up all the tiring residual sugar. full sugary body is extremely sticky, throat coating, palate wrenching (i actually had to stop drinking at this point), beyond rich and oily. i can certainly see why people dig on these, but... i’ll have to give this another shot with a really fresh bottle...

Thanks to kylefleeger for cracking this bottle of 2008. Pours a warm amber color from the bomber with a creamy off-white head. Looks as great as it tastes. Brimming with the sweet flavors of gingerbread, brown sugar, spiced citrus, and vanilla. Almost a dessert in itself except for the trademark measure of hops by FFF. Great stuff.

Bottle, 2007. Pours a nice amberish color with a very small head. Aroma is wonderful and I could sit and smell this for a very long time. Vanilla, caramel, cookies, malts, dried fruits and some fruity and floral hops. Flavor is not as hoppy as I expected and that is fine with me. Vanilla, fruit, malts, caramel, toffee...lots of toffee. This is afine beer!!

2007 bottle shared at tasting. Poured clear amber with slight offwhtie head. Aroma of malt, fruit, light hop. Not as hoppy as I was expecting, though this was brewed two years ago. Taste was similar with lots of malt, some fruit, and heavy sweetness. Finish is, again, not as hop bitter as expected, though pretty nice. Overalll, a solid effort, though a little below expectation.

08 Bottle from dpjuart, thanks Dave! Poured a clear amber color with a moderate off-white head that faded to a ring. Earthy, hoppy aroma with some caramel malts and pine, and a hint of citrus fruit. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some caramel, brown sugar, and a bit of hoppy spice including some pine and a light citrus fruitiness (orange, tangerine). Finishes moderately bitter. Moderate carbonation, decent bite on the palate.

A Mes rate: bottle at the Harry vs Wolfman fist fight.
Clean dark copper coloured with a thin beige head. Big hoppy aroma with a load of sugary malt that never quite balances if you ask me. Nice enough though. Massive thick malty flavour with a load of sugary toffee. Sweet as hell and probably too much for many but it hit the spot for me. Good bitterness in the finish from the very floral hops. Not the most complex of brews, in fact it’s a rather basic big malt big hops type thing but there is enough fruity character to add some interest. Somehow the alcohol remains very well behaved too. Very good stuff.
