4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 25, 2009 8-4-08 Bottle at RBSG grand tasting. Thanks to whoever brought this. Pours a murky copper color with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet roasted barley, with musty fruits and caramel. The taste was Yummy (yes I wrote that in my tasting notes, so I’m obviously starting to get hammered), besides yummy there was fruity pretentiousness, upright wood and obtuse vanilla perfume. The mouthfeel was full and malty. The finish was long and dry. Overall: An excellent barley-wine. Thanks to whoever brought this.
10-25-2009. re-rate. Pink wax bottle courtesy to Lagunitasfan. Nose was fuckin amazing, I get a big robust barleywine blast of apricots, persimmons, toffee, caramel, almonds and leather. The flavor is similar with an emphasis on the apricot and some hops still making themselves known. Pleased to report that this is aging very well.
10-25-2009 rerate #2. Blue wax bottle courtesy of mike (BA). Tasted side by side with the pink wax bottle and this got blown away. For starters the nose just was underdeveloped with hardly any fruit just some toffee and alcohol. The taste was also fairly lifeless compared to the 2005, where that one practically exploded with taste sensations this one did nothing, just some medium walnut hops with caramel and toffee. Overall:Age this baby.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle thanks to JBPortland! Pours a caramel brown color with a bit of gaseous eggshell bubbles. The nose is caramel popcorn, booze and a bit of herbal medicinal weirdness. The palate follows the nose with round sweet booze, toasted caramel and a stale hop bitterness that rolls into a bit of a weird medicinal artificiality late palate into the finish. Some boozy heat lingers.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber came from Adam. Big thanks! White wax which I think is a 2011, poured on 12/14/13. Pours a orange brown, a bit murky, with a small yellowish brown head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, orange peel, some more fruits, figs. Flavor is big time malts, toffee, caramel, lots of fig, some orange peel, still some semblance of hops with a little dankness, and more big malty notes. Lots of flavor, and very much on the sweet side. Mouthfeel is chewy but with plenty of carbonation despite the age. This is good stuff, but I don't think it lives up to its name for me unless it is better fresh.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle via trade with the madbeerbaron. Thanks Ben! 2012 vintage. Pours a muddy brown with a thin tan head. A year old and the hops are still coming through in the nose. Plenty of caramel and dried fruit to go with. Velvety smooth on the tongue with a bit of sweetness up front. Lots of dark caramel, malt, and light bread notes. A hint of fruit and pine on the back end. Lasting finish. A pleasure to drink.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2012 vintage from Justin, thanks a lot!
Pours dark orange with a white head.
Aroma is mostly sweet and caramel malty. Faint hops.
Taste is sweet, caramel malty with some faint hops, herbs and alcohol heat at the end.
Dry mouth feel, low carbonation.
Short bitter after taste.
Quite a let down, nothing really distinct in neither aroma or taste. This is perhaps best when fresh.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2013 Bottle thanks to jbickus. I may have opened this a bit late/anti early. The hops have started to fade but are still there. I am usually one to enjoy beer fresh but hadn’t gotten around to this one. Pours a ruby brown color with a white foamy head. Aroma of pine and crusty bread. Tastes of honey and dark fruits. For having faded hops, this is still amazing. Hides the alcohol beautifully. Medium to thick bodied with medium carbonation.
