hillfiiiiire (213), Atoka, Tennessee, USA May 15, 2008 2008 vintage. It pours a nice dark amber with a smallish head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma is a kick of citrus hops, but it’s not just some hop monster! It’s got some beautiful caramel malt. The flavor is out of this world though. I expected something one dimensional and overly hoppy, but the hop hits you immediately, but then there are these mild fruity flavors. Maybe plums? Not sure, but it’s nice. It finishes sweet and a little dry. Very nice. Clean and lightly carbonated. Quite tasty brew.
Slipstream (400), USA Oct 13, 2008 Another thanks to my cousin for a glass of this top 1 percent brew. This is strong, sweet, malty stuff. I noticed a lot of fruit and a little yeast in the rich flavor. I am not always a huge fan of barleywines, but I enjoyed this a lot. masonjer (469), Holt, Michigan, USA Oct 13, 2008 Zeeland 08’ tasting. 2008 bottle. Some how I haven’t tried this one yet. And honestly I had heard differing opinions on this one. Poured dark brown. Aroma was nice citrus and deep malt. Taste was much the same with some dark fruit and a great balance between sharp citrus hops and big malt. This one earned my respect. hombrepalo (507), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 13, 2008 2008 bomber. Finally got this one but was way too hot for me. The aroma was full of alcohol and brown sugar. The appearance was a nice dark brown with some red highlights, fluffy head. The taste was really hot and boozey with some malt thrown in there somewhere. Predominate caramel sweetness nicley balnced by peppery spice that stretches inot a long bitter finish. Not my cup of tea, needed more balance. xpimptastikx (27), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 7, 2008 Yellow 2007 bottle thanks to lb4lb.
An amazing barley wine! Pours a caramel amber with almost nonexistent tan head. Tastes of molasses, with fruits like raisins and grapefruit. Easy on the palate with a warming alcohol feeling.
lassem (134), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 7, 2008 Purple waw - 2008 edition. Three Floyds allways appeares in nice wrapping..love it. Pours a deep amber with a tan head. Aroma is a bit like christmas - with cloves, dry fruits add to that tons of american hops. Strong vinoes taste with fruity hoppy overwhelming notes. Best barlywine ive had to this date. Finish long and bittersweet..
