3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2006 Now that I’ve had the 2001 Behemoth that the Floyds "found" in the cooler and put on tap at the brewpub, I can discount my description below (and save my bottle of 2005 to age for a while). The draft pour is a deep cloudy brown, with a thin barleywine head. Bigass malts prevail in this one, with a bit of taffy apple-caramel sweetness. Alcohol is not heady or overpowering… at first, but sneaks up big time toward the end. There’s a touch brandy, with a swirl of strawberry, prune and cherry. Very thick and chewy.
Bottled off kegging line by 3F’s employee. My rating is tempered by the fact that the sample was bottled 4 years ago and not counter-pressure filled. But I expect to have some fresher stuff when the bottles finally come out this summer. This sample was slightly cloudy. Not as hoppy as most 3F’s, just the remains of a fine hop bouquet. This is, yes, slightly oxidized, but also sweet and somewhat fruity, with a hint of raspberry.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had on tap at 3 Floyds. Fairly sweet flavors of hop, citrus, and malt. Decent but too sweet for me - just not my style.

This borderlines on double IPA for me because of its intense bitter hop flavor. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Nice sweet caramel and big hop aromas. Flavors are smooth sweet caramel followed by a hop explosion. Awesome stuff. No alcohol detected at all.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours with a decent head. Smells great, tastes great. Extremely well balanced, nothing overwhelming the other. Tastes of hops, citrus, mild alcohol taste, slightly bitter finish. A really great beer.
Had from a bottle.

Bottle shared with plovmand. Bottle with yellow wax. Hazy amber body with a tiny head. Plums, raisins, brown sugar, crackers, dark fruit. Smooth and soft. Really delicious despite the 7 years of age.

Bottle. Yellow wax. Shared with Hallinghansen. It pours hazy deep Amber with a medium off white head. Loads of sweet cracker like malt and hops with dried fruity notes. The flavor is really malty with rich nutty and caramel notes. Ripe dried fruits and sweet biscuits. I find a mysterious off notes I can’t describe but he’ll it’s 8 years old. Still going strong!!

APPEARANCE - Ruby red clear, lacking head.
NOSE - Clearly a barely wine. Good age smell.
FLAVOR - Smooth as my backside.
NOTES - Excellent barley wine. I hear it's better at 3 years than 8 (thanks Shigegado).

2013 bomber. Pours dark amber with some sediment near the end. Aroma of orange peel, honey, hops, and prune. Tastes very smiling and sweet with an aggressive, hoppy/boozy bitter finish. Flavors of brown sugar, orange, hops, and slight dark fruit hints. Very nice sipper.
