Huge sweet body, big flavors and high alcohol levels, this beer is best enjoyed by a raging fire. Complex caramel sweetness is well balanced by generous hopping, delivering an intense, smooth drinking experience. Intense fruity caramel malts, citrus hops, and alcohol notes waft up to tickle your senses.

UPDATED: NOV 10, 2006 Now that I’ve had the 2001 Behemoth that the Floyds "found" in the cooler and put on tap at the brewpub, I can discount my deScription below (and save my bottle of 2005 to age for a while). The draft pour is a deep cloudy brown, with a thin barleywine head. Bigass malts prevail in this one, with a bit of taffy apple-caramel sweetness. Alcohol is not heady or overpowering… at first, but sneaks up big time toward the end. There’s a touch brandy, with a swirl of strawberry, prune and cherry. Very thick and chewy.

Bottled off kegging line by 3F’s employee. My rating is tempered by the fact that the sample was bottled 4 years ago and not counter-pressure filled. But I expect to have some fresher stuff when the bottles finally come out this summer. This sample was slightly cloudy. Not as hoppy as most 3F’s, just the remains of a fine hop bouquet. This is, yes, slightly oxidized, but also sweet and somewhat fruity, with a hint of raspberry.

650ml bottle enjoyed @ a friend’s cottage. Pours murky golden with an off-white head. Aroma is floral, caramel, citrus, bready, hops and honey. Flavour is medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied, thick texure, soft carbonation. Finish is warming alcohol, quite hoppy and surprinsingly easy to drink.

Enjoyed at an all barley wine tasting at Travis’s house on February 21. 22 oz, 2012 vintage. The pour is an orangey brown with a nice frothy off-white head and some good lace. The aroma is surprisingly hoppy with a lot of brown sugar. The hops almost make me want to think this is a big IPA. The alcohol seems to be hidden by the sugar for sure. The The flavor is big on hop bitterness and a good citrus fruity zing. There is a strong yeastiness on the back end. The mouth feel is thicker and well carbonated with a lingeringly bitter, roasted hop aftertaste that really hangs around

Bottle at all killer no filler. Pours murky brown with a frothy offwhite head. A lot sediment observed. Aroma is caramel and hoppy. Taste sweet caramel, slightly bitter hops, a touch of citrus.

Back in the day I would of loved this. The reason people say that Ipa’s turn into barley wine. Lots of hops and caramel malt. I found it easy to drink despite how big this was. Hoppy barely wine, not really my thing anymore.

22oz bottle pours a brown color with a bit if frothy head. Strong caramel. Less of a sweet malt bomb than other big barley wines. Alcohol well masked. Delicate complex flavors.

This was pretty hoppy. Doesn’t taste like your typical barleywine. It was more like an ipa but I would drink again.

On tap at Stout Barrel House. Tawny amber, low golden head. Chewy toffee and piney hops, full bodied with a long bitter finish. A great American barley wine.
