Had at the brewpub. Pours a midnight, motor oil black with a dark tan head that is almost gone right away. Loads of sugary lace spots that don’t cling together. Nose is sweet, but there is a ton of citrus hops (maybe a certain New Zealand style hop) in there. Malts, but not that roasted. Tastes like sugary toffee, with a bitterness that is really nice. Chocolate, a touch of coffee. Booze. Just awesome. They need to bottle this.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is very dark brown/close to black with a small tan head, nice lacing left on the glass. The nose is heavy on the roasted malts, light chocolate, caramel, and pine needle hops. Lots of hop and pine bitterness with an imperial stout backbone (chocolate, espresso, dark toast). Tastes kind of like an imperial black IPA.

Can;t go wrong with a beer described with a Simpsons quote. Wish this was available for carryout. On tap at the pub. Pours black, minimal head. Noticeable hops for an imperial stout but still lead with the chocolate/coffee/malt characteristics you would expect in the stout. Smooth and enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at brewpub. Pour is nearly black wih minimal tan foam. Aroma and flavor with roasted malt, pleasant hops, and distant coffee. There is no hint of 10% at all. The palate is nice and full but that is the only suggestion that this is not a 5% hoppy porter. Very good. Hits hard (drank this too fast).

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On draft at Three Floyds. A beer named as such caught my need for a great stout and did I get it? Even better. It was like a hop bomb and a Imperial stout had a beautiful perfect proportionate baby. This beer was pitch black with a tan head. Smells of all things stout and DIPA at the same time. Hops and chocolate/roasted coffee. I was surprised by the body. Considering how it looked and smelled you would think it would be almost cloyingly thick and coating but instead it was pleasant. A wonderful mouthfeel. Amazing.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2013 Enjoyed on tap @ 3 Floyd’s with friends. Appearance is pitch black with a thin tan head. Aroma has a rich hop profile with huge chocolate and coffee notes, smells decadent. Taste is phenomenal. Awesome stuff.

I honestly thought this was a black IPA rather than an Imperial Stout. I really enjoyed the flavor, but felt it lacked a body that is expected in a stout.

Enjoyed on tap FFF. Served in a 10 oz. goblet.
A: Pours an obsidian black color with a fluffy tan head forming on the pour. Recedes to a thin ring and leaves little splotches of lace.
S: Citrus hoppiness with some noticeable booze and some chocolate. Light roast as well.
T: Roasty malts with some sweet booze. Milk chocolate with a minimal citrus hop backing. Some black licorice as well.
M: Medium to heavy bodied with a little chew to it. Smooth, roasty and sweet finish.
O: A very nice and big stout. Boozy, tons of chocolate and roast. One of the better stouts from FFF.
Serving type: on-tap
