Draft at pub. Very dark, small tan head. Like many other beers from 3 floyds this thing has more hops crammed in than I thought possible. Strong hop aroma, strong hop taste. This clams to be an imperial stout, but it is a lotmore of the black IPA variety. Best way to describe this is a better version of black sun with a whole lot more hops. Very good.

5 oz taster glass, from tap. Appearance: Your typical stout - black of color, dark tan of head, with good retention. Smell: Straight hops, nothing else. This smells much like I imagine perfume that has gone rancid smells. Taste: The taste follows the aroma, nothing but a solid wall of acrid floral bite. I can’t even conceive of any other descriptor than what I would guess taking a swig of some excessively flowery perfume right from the bottle could be like. Mouthfeel: I got two sips in, and couldn’t even register mouthfeel, so I default this category to decent. Overall: This is a black IPA that is mislabeled as a stout. Those of you who don’t share my hop sensitivity would probably find it amazing - I get a single note barrage of disgust.

Bottle pour opaque black with thick tan head. Nose initially very hoppy, almost like a black IPA. As it warms much more dark roast, bakers chocolate, currant, some plum. Taste mix of bitter and roast up front. Late palate the chocolate shows up. Very hoppy for a RIS, but I expect that from 3F. Great mouth feel.

22 ounce bottle into signature teku glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, pine, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, molasses, floral, grass, light dark fruit, light char, and floral/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops and dark/roasted malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, molasses, pine, floral, grass, light dark fruit, light char, and floral/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of pine/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, orange peel, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, molasses, pine, light char, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and dark/roasted malt flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/sticky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a great hoppy imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to drink for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft. Datk pour. Extremely FFF hop-forward nose, and the flavor lends this to being an "imperial black ipa" piney hops, fiar amount of hop bitterness to go with a pretty plain jane imperial stout. The price I’ve seen around is ludicrous.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2015 2/9 - Monk’s Pub (Chicago) - Draft - Very nice dark pour, taste was fruity and a bit sweet, but not overpowering. Nice a smooth to drink, the hops were strong and tasted excellent. Beer was thick and felt really good in my mouth, almost like syrup. An overall excellent beer, so act fast, time is running out, and grab a few bottles or pours when you have a chance. If you like strong thick beer with a great taste, you’ll want to order this offering.

Bottle from MeadMe thanks for the opportunity. Rich chocolate and roast with a huge earthy citrus hop presence. Great beer.

Deep black brown with a light tan head. Pine. Very herbal, fennel, some slight spicy pepper. Smoky. Light honey. Quite sweet with some strong spiciness, decently bitter. Very acidic, effervescent, some light carbonation. Medium heavy body, fairly upfront alcohol. Long finish. Sort of like eating a sausage.

Fresh Bottle. Pours black with a beige one inch head that leaves significant lacing after a few sips. Definitely a hop-forward imperial stout. Aroma is of herbal hops and scant roasted malts. Taste is similar. A hoppy imperial stout dominated by herbal tastes/aroma; roasted malt in the background. Medium bodied, average carbonation, with a lightly bitter finish.

Black point khaki head and light lacing .... Aroma of herbal, citrusy/orange and floral .... Taste is of citrusy/orange, herbal and floral hops with a chocolatey and roasted malt .... Has a pretty bitter dry hop to it .... Like a 50/50 mix of an IPA and stout ... Complex and interesting ..... Has some booze in the aroma .... Finish is malty and bitter with a lingering citrusy hop bite
