I honestly thought this was a black IPA rather than an Imperial Stout. I really enjoyed the flavor, but felt it lacked a body that is expected in a stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz. bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a dark brown to black in color with a small khaki head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate ample citrus and earthy hop bitterness, definitely one of the hoppier imperial stouts, the body seems thin, very much like a black IPA.

22oz bottle, big thanks to b3shine! Shared with local Ratebeerians. Black color. Thin brown head, very nice darker color to the head. Leaves great thicker bits of lace. Looks wonderful. Bigger body, good chewiness to the texture. Very satisfying thickness. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly slick, lightly drying in the finish. Great texture. Fantastic flavor, too. Good bigger earthy mildly piney resiny hop, nice roast malt, dark chocolate, cocoa nib and mild coffee. Moderate to bigger bitter taste. Lighter sweet. Light bit of heat on the end. Very satisfying balanced hoppy stout. Really tasty.

Excited to try this one, love the Simpsons quote. Anyway, a bomber poured into a pint glass. The beer is an solid black with a thick, tan head that lingers a long time and leaves a ton of lacing. Aroma is rich chocolate, coffee, and cocoa. There is a hint of fruity, piney hops as well. Flavor is very intense and extreme up front. Roasted cocoa and coffee are met with a kind of tropical fruity flavor. It sounds odd but works very well together. There is a ton of roasted barley in this beer as well. It somewhat coats the mouth and leaves a sweet, but not cloying taste. The alcohol is well hidden. This is an awesome beer, and different from most imperial stoutís I have had.

Sampled at GABF 2014 with Andrew, Mel and company. Pours a deep blackish brown body with thin tan lacing. Aroma is fresh pine and rich chocolate roast. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of chocolate, light roast and super fresh pine hop character. Really nice hoppy stout.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a very slightly translucent dark cola with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt, chocolate, roast, and loads of hops. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Good beer that I see as more of an Imperial Black IPA than an Imperial Stout.

Draft at 3Floyds Brew Pub. Pours a motor oil black. Nose has citrus, malts and chocolate. Taste isn't overly roasty. More chocolate citrus driven. As it warms the booze is still hidden. More chocolate coming through. Not a bad drop ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had at the brewpub. Pours a midnight, motor oil black with a dark tan head that is almost gone right away. Loads of sugary lace spots that donít cling together. Nose is sweet, but there is a ton of citrus hops (maybe a certain New Zealand style hop) in there. Malts, but not that roasted. Tastes like sugary toffee, with a bitterness that is really nice. Chocolate, a touch of coffee. Booze. Just awesome. They need to bottle this.
