3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I honestly thought this was a black IPA rather than an Imperial Stout. I really enjoyed the flavor, but felt it lacked a body that is expected in a stout.

black with thin cream ring, lacing and oily cap. Booze dominates light gum-sweet esters and rubber. Front palate stings, burnt sugar dominates with light gum elements mid-palate, finishes some roast, softer toast and dough in the end.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aromas of brownies, cocoa, dark roasted malts, cocoa, toffee, earth, pipe tobacco and slight piney hops. Pours black with a thin white foam and oil tracings on the top. Taste brings heavy earthy, ashy, chocolate, charcoal and cigar smoke upfront. Mid palate brings sweet milk chocolate, tree bark, roasted malts, dark grains and black licorice. Finishes smooth with residual hop oils, coffee oils, chocolate, licorice and raisins. Overall, a very unique take on a stout with a massive body and complexity. This sets the bar for non BA Imperial Stout. This is a real treat.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with creamy, cappuccino head, decent legs / Rich, roast, winey nose of toasted grain, straw, cocoa, citrus / Medium to full body, significant alcohol burn, lush, chewy, good balance, thin finish / Flavors of roast grain, caramel, bittersweet chocolate, orange / Has a number of positive elements, but ultimately doesn’t measure up to the high alcohol content.
