4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 23/165 courtesy of noodleuser, thanks! Dark hazy brown color, no head to speak of. Aroma of port wine, booze, plums, vanilla. Taste is vanilla, port soda, chocolate covered brandied cherries. Nice esophageal warming feeling that slowly expands through the thorax in an anterior to posterior direction. I approve.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a reddish black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate, bourbon and peppers aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt, peppers and alcohol flavor with a heavy dark bittersweet and small pepper bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is another standout beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
BottleÖ This beer rocks!Ö Pours tar black with no head. The aroma is an intermingling of bourbon, fudge and ethanol trailed by more timid notes of chili peppers and vanilla. Full-bodied with a 10w30 mouthfeel and pillow-soft carbonation. Very sweet and thereís just not enough chili pepper flavor or heat. Lots of dark chocolate, fudge and molasses. Finishes caramely, deeply roasted and molasses-sweet. Itís the least pleasing of all the Dark Lord treatments Iíve tried, but itís still Dark Lord. Big-time thanks to Maltzilla for popping the top on this world class beer!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750mL yellow wax #23/165 thanks to noodleuser and ygtbsm94. Pours clear cola red with a fizzing out quickly red head. Almost an acid like cut. Nose is richer, thick bourbon with heavier thick figs and raisins. Sort of roasted fig presence. Taste is nice, thick dark fruits, muted bourbon, ending with some fizzier grape soda. Longer, chalkier palate. Pretty good. Also takes mostly like stickier, roasted figs.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Shared at DLD 2012: Pitch black with a small head, oily and lot of tears. Nose has notes of chocolate, anise, roast, tar, tobacco, chili pepper, herbal hops, smoked meats and some vanilla bean bourbon vapours. The taste starts big and brash malts with lots of earthy notes before pepper kicks in and add depth and a bite. A sipper for sure, sticky and oily with only a slight oxidization. Overall I like this quite a bit... maybe I will get more one day.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle via big-time nutso trade- thanks again, Adam! Bottle 51/165. Tried alongside the Pappy, Brandy, Brandy Vanilla, and 2006-2011 Dark Lord at the epic Friday night tasting at my place on my bachelor party weekend. Since this was the one barrel Dark Lord I needed to still get, Iím making it my 2500th rating. That, and this one vastly exceeded expectations. Pours a deep, dark opaque brown, black in the middle, with a minimal amount of brown bubbles for the head. The aroma presents some spicy, peppery notes, but those take a major back seat to the incredibly balanced barrel notes- bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla, caramel, and molasses. Roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits all present, too. The flavor brings more of the same in perfect harmony. The peppers here show up later, with some spice and lingering heat on the palate. Still, there isnít enough to top the barrel notes and underlying Dark Lord character. The coffee and pepper complement each other well, and there is sweetness of the vanilla, caramel, molasses, cocoa, and dark fruits.
Nice full body on this despite spending some time in the barrels. Pretty low carbonation and a smooth, rich, robust, and sweet mouthfeel before a bit of peppery heat late. Like I said, this one greatly exceeded expectations, as I thought itíd be my least favorite of the four. Thatís not the case at all. Awesome barrel treatment to the Dark Lord.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at Seanís 30th Birthday Party. Awesome. Pours a pretty thick blackish hue, roasty and sweet malts mix with vanilla, chocolate, touches of slick and oily on the palate, with decent peppery kick. Lighter, kicks of heat on the back of the palate are more mellow than expected. Touches of peppers, roast, sweet toffee, creamy vanilla and cocoa, caramel. Decent roast overall, with some light espresso, peppers, vanilla. Fairly rich on the palate, with good toast, sweet thicker malts. This keeps a full body on the palate. The peppers are nice, but mellow. Keeps much of the coffee and sweet/roast synergy. Very nice, a touch of tangy pepper, as the heat gets covered up in decent amounts for me. Finish is lingering roast, cocoa, and light pepper and decent vanilla. Nice added element to an already strong and assertive beer, Iíd definitely take more heat though. The peppers seems muted. Iíd rather have a Chocolate Yeti I think. Itís a nice beer and all, and maybe they need to dial it in more on a second go through. I didnít get too much oak, a touch of heat from the barrel. Kinda understated treatment from what I was originally expecting. Still, a very nice beer.
