Tasted 7/8/11. 22oz bomber. #51/165. Thanks to phaleslu for sharing! Pours dark and pitch with a trace tan head. Aromas of earthy, vegetal notes with a smokey malt aspect. Burnt marshmallows and a good dose of peppers. Full bodied and hot with a big palate. Odd, yet surprisingly rounded. The peppers and the heat are apparent, but they blend decently with the barrel aging. Good heat, good body and nicely blended. It got the silver from the series.

Pours a thick dark brown with no head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, brown sugar and bourbon. Taste follows, sweet, and chewy chocolate.

Bottle shared at the Moeder Lambic cellar tasting 2015.thanks again to kermis for sharing this one! 2011 vintage bottle. poured a dark black colour with a oily tanned shade on the side of the glass. to be honest i think this one was the biggest surprise of the dark lord set to all of us. we all didn’t think before it was this good. i think this has improved a lot with age! the aroma opens indeed with a nice peppery spice note. but it has settled so well with all the bourbon barrel notes, and i have no idea it this is coming by age, but there are so many fruited notes into this one, that i couldn’t get in this amount with the other version. it’s like i’m smelling a ton of raspberrie jelly jam. burned brown caramel, charred oak, vanilla, and green pepper heat. taste has a lot of sweet molasses in there aswell. the pepper spiced come trough a bit in the back end. but not in an overwelming part. all flavors are working perfectly with eachother. even some earthy green coffee in there aswell. (only thing we kept asking ourself is... is this one aged in PAPPY barrels with chilis?? since there isn’t a regular version with plain bourbon... if someone has the answer on this. please reach out to me. all i can say is that this was one of a surprise. very glad i had the chance to try this one! thanks again kermis for sharing this!

A: Dark black body with brown edges. Not much head. Legs.
N: Bourbon, chili pepper, espresso, caramel, more chillies, burnt fruit rollups. Oak.
T: Spicy and sweet.
M: Treacly, thick body. Sticky. Alcohol is contained. There is significant burnination.
O: A good variant. DL is big enough and sweet enough to cover up some of the burn, but it’s definitely not for the type of person who chooses ’mild’.

Bottle 232 of 417. 2013 version. Pours a dark brown color with almost no head. A wonderful nose of dark fruit, chillies and light vanilla. A bit thin, vanilla, green peppers, tropical sweet citrus, lots of peppers pulling loads of flavors here. Bourbon, vanilla. The overall flavor is heat, dark fruit, bourbon. A bit of a thin palate. Pretty good.

750 ml bottle (2013) at the Mikkeller Bar (Viktoriagade), Copenhagen. Black color with small brown head. Aroma is roasted malty, chocolate, light vanilla and wood. Taste is sweet and mostly bitter, roasted, chocolate, light spicy, vanilla. Full body, creamy, flat carbonation.

Catching up on RBAG 2014 notes backlog... Bottle, shared by kbudd-- thanks Kevin! Same high viscosity pour as the regular Dark Lord. The base palate is packed with dark residual sugars and heavy malts, sticky bourbon sweetness, and a really fantastic vegetal peppery character that leaves moderate heat deep in the throat long into the finish. This is the King of all chilli beers. Awesome!

[ As Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout (Bourbon Barrel Aged De Muerte) ].
Clear dark black color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly lasting head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee, earthy - chili fruit, moderate vanilla - bourbon. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter with a long long duration, chocolate, earthy - chili fruit, oak - dry wood, light burnning finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - creamy, carbonation is flat, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic.
