sliffy (1913), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 5, 2008 DLD ’08: On tap in the pub: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma, fruity citrus hops, bourbon, chocolate and vanilla. Flavor, pine, citrus, some fruits, an earthy bitterness, bittersweet chocolate, bourbon notes. I thought it was a bit more full bodied than regular black sun. I loved it.
Rciesla (222), Brick City, New Jersey, USA May 15, 2008 Draft at FFF, DLD. this was a huge score for me as i’m a big fan of the base beer. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon, fruit, and chalky vanilla. The flavor was just that with some hop character but more so chocolate and bourbon. I loved this. waolsen (881), Littleton, Colorado, USA May 12, 2008 tap at brewery. midnight black, dark tan head with great lacing throughout. wonderful bourbon in aroma, choco, roasted malts and some vanilla. light hoppiness. chocolate. body is just a little thin. this is was a treat to have. mdm46410 (448), Griffith, Indiana, USA May 10, 2008 On tap at Three Floyds and served in a snifter. This beer poured a slick, oily dark brown with a bubbly head of dark tan foam that lasted a little white. Just a touch of slippery lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of sweet bourbon notes along with a nice roasted malt backbone. The flavor included bourbon, wood, coffee, and burnt malts. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with very mild carbonation. A nicely done barrel-aged beer. The bourbon blends in nicely with the original beer. AmEricanbrew (721), Greenwood, Louisiana, USA May 6, 2008 Draft at DLD 2008. Black with a tan head. Big bourbon/oak vanilla aroma with dry blackened malts. Medium body with a very smooth slick mouthfeel. Great taste mirrors the aroma with sweet bourbon/vanilla mixing nicely with bitter chocolate and roasty blackened malt flavors. Liked this one more than the DL.
