Brewso (236), Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA Nov 25, 2007 Nice fully citrusy aroma. Beautiful hop profile. Taste is not as satisfying as the aroma- not enough malt for my liking. I appreciate a hop showcase but this becomes a bit abrasive. I prefer a bit more balance. Still jazzed to have had a chance at this on my t-giving trip to chicago.
BrotherGrendel (135), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 Poured into a Stone OG tulip glass.
Appearance is hazy bright orange hue, big frothy white head dissipates to a thin layer, web-like lacing on the glass.
Smell is big sour grapefruit with some floral and grassy tones, consistent with fresh hops, other citrus and light fruits.
Taste is initially sweetened grapefruit hops with a nice orange background, some pine resin and grassy hops transition to biscuity malts, finishes dry and bitter.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, thick resiny texture coats the tongue, moderately high carbonation.
Drinkability is high, this is a flavorful and sweetly hopped IPA with great balance, the alcohol presence is minimal and the wet hops add great character to the taste. dchmela (695), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle courtesy Kmeves and shared with my buddy Ian. Cloudy amber pour with a thick white head. Citrus, grapefruit aroma, very understated, not overpowering. Malty citrus taste, lots of hops, but soooo easy to drink. Don’t know if the hops were mellowed a bit by this being last years bottle, but the hops seemed just perfect. Very nice beer and great on a hot summer day. mabel (1633), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2008 [1306-20080418] 1pt6floz bottle. Fruity navel orange juice hops aroma with fresh light malty earth. Hazy, light orange red body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Juicy fresh navel orange flavour is nicely balanced. Medium body has a bitter background. Very nice, yummy hops. Love the label too: a troll in a sailor suit in front of a princess getting impaled by a unicorn in front of a castle on fire.
(w/ blankboy, HogTownHarry, jerc, tupalev) cherr (162), Rochester, New York, USA Jul 4, 2008 Totally awesome beer. I got in a bottle from Kahn’s fine wines in INdianapolis, IN. Smell is of amarillo hops. The pour is nice and thick. The taste is angled towards the hops with some nice crisp malt. One of their best. To me, this is easier to drink than alpha king as it doesn’t have the hop harshness from the chinook. bgburdman9 (722), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 28, 2008 An old rating i finally got to entering. Aroma wash of straight hops. Seemed like every kind possible. Citrus, pine, earthiness, spice. Flavor was pretty hoppy and very very bitter. I wish this was year round and i cant believe its only 5.5 %. The aggressive hops could easily make like place this at 8 or 9%.
