Mid-amber bodied with a skinny, white head that was quickly a wet halo. Confusing aroma of strong metallic notes over nutty lemon. Flavor finds a floral base with possible diacetyl problems and a metallic finish. Sharp mouthfeel finishes dry. Really not very good... a challenge to drink.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2006 Draft, and 3F’s, 8/14/06 This beer is back after two years; finally a chance to revisit it. Nice pale ale-ish color, with a touch of cloudiness under an inch-thick head that stays pretty frothy. Smell is more like a wit. Taste is much less grainy than before, much more malty. Nicely rides that line between ale and lager. In the middle of the glass, there’s a fine north German hop bitterness clinging to the back of the mouth. Then a hint of ale fruitiness that again reminds me of something Belgian. Finish is almost syrupy. Yes, much better than before.

Original rating 7/14/04, rated 2.3. Draft, poured by Nic Floyd. Can this be? A 3F that’s not that great??! Well, maybe the tap was off because I tasted nothing like the descriptions here. I got a big off-flaver of raw grain. Mild citrus hop could not make up for it. I will have to re-sample sometime.

HopsOrDie (687) - New Lenox, Illinois, USA - JUL 9, 2004
Clear yellow beer with a little white head. Aroma was faint and soapy smelling. The flavor was dominated by fruit and a soft soap flavor. After a few tastes I really started to enjoy it.

From the tap at Three Floyds, poured by Nick Floyd. Pale yellow appearance did not capture your attention. Aroma was weak, also. Mild hops, fruit, but very faint. Thin bodied. Not bad for the style but not a style I particularly like. Flavor was thin and watery.

Had at the brewery and served by Nick Floyd. Very cool. First let me say that Kolsch and I dont really get a long to much. In fact, every time I have experienced this style I have left feeling like I have missed something. Having said that, this was no different but it definately had a better kick to it. The nose is somewhat hoppy with some grass to it. The flavour was hoppy with a nice hint of sourness. Pretty good for a kolsch but not phantastic.

Hoppy for the style, but with a subtle tangy, fruity background. Quite a bit of flavor; overall a good brew.

Slightly fruity aroma. Soft, smooth malt flavor, some hops present. Very light, smooth finish, thin malt, good for the style but lacking in complexity. Slight sweetness.

A nice change of pace after hitting some heavier beers. Crisp, light, and a beautiful golden hue. Great first beer at the tour.
