Bottle pours somewhat cloudy reddish/amber color with off white head. Aroma has dark fruit, oak, a touch of wine, brown sugar, and booze. Lightly carbonated. Flavor follows the nose pretty well. Upfront its got a nice dark fruit, brown sugar, butterscotch caramel note. The middle is dominated by a tannic oaky wine note. And finishes with some booze. Overall I enjoyed it.

Tasted on 1/7//12 from a waxed and capped 750mL bottle. Pours murky burnt orange with an average beige head that recedes to a very thin veil of lace. The nose is full of sweet caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, cinnamon, dark chocolate, light fruit, and a touch of butterscotch, making me think that this could have some infection issues in the future. The flavor is lightly fruity sour, caramel, vanilla, burnt brown sugar, cinnamon, and butterscotch. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long lightly sour, malty, and whiskey finish. I like this beer for the moment, but I am certain that it is infected and will become worse with more time.

750mL bottle, #328/386. Poured hazy medium orange with a short, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up slightly sour wine, oak, and fruity notes over chewy caramel, dark fruits, and molasses.. came across very strong, but with good stuff. The flavor found mostly vinous notes, rye, and licorice at the core, with oaky notes, barrel sourness + warmth around.. finished with a lot of barrel flavor/strength and grainy rye malt. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. solid overall, but it only sorta worked as I think they intended.

Bottle shared byalexsdad06. Poured hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy tannic fruit, malt and small woody alcohol aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy complex sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is was a solid beer.

750ml bottle, big thanks to alexsdad06 for sharing! Moderately hazy darker amber color. Kind of reddish. Minimal white head, couple dots of lace. Mmm, I really enjoy the nose on this. Dark fruit, caramel malt, candy sugar, some vanilla and butterscotch. A very rich smell.. Some red wine tannins. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, a lot of pleasant tannin in the flavor. Good dark, earthy, chocolately red wine notes. Lightly tart taste, kind of spicy, light bitter. Medium to bigger body, kind of thicker and full mouthfeel, lightly chewy. Lightly dry finish. Very light, smooth carbonation. Good red wine barrel aged barley wine - definitely get a lot of the red wine barrel here, I enjoy that. An interesting, tasty, full flavored aromatic one, very unique. Light tart tannic bite, but that’s it.

750 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours a clear dark amber color with very little head. The aroma and flavor have barrel notes that almost seem to be bourbon, but I can also get some red wine too. Caramel, tannins, wood, dark fruit, brown sugar, touches of bitterness to the finish.

Cloudy brown beer. Good cream coloured head. Tangy oak and vanilla nose. Semi soft palate, very moderate carbonation. Tangy malt, smooth oaky flavour more bourbon than red wine. Mild vanilla. Dry finish with mild spicy alcohol. Typically sumptuous Three Floyds beer. This is just a little tangy to hit the highest echelons.

It has notes of cleaning chemicals. Really a poorly-aged beer that just doesn’t work.

750ml waxed bottle served in a Surly Darkness snifter. Bottle 232/386. Random Sunday afternoon opening before the Blackhawks game with danielnovak3. Thanks for the pour Dan! A: Pours a very murky brown with a thin off white head forming on the pour. The body is very still and there are very few bubbles. S: Smells of vinous barrel and dark fruits. There is a caramel like sweetness to it as well with a faint hoppiness. The barrel is showcased so far. T: More barrel here. Vinous red wine smell with a mild oak. Nice Three Floyds grapefruit hop profile in there that is much more potent than the nose. There is some tart green apple and the finish is a sweet butterscotch. ABV is completely hidden. M: Heavy bodied and sticky with lower carbonation. It works very well and is typical of the "-Goop" beers. O: Once you get past the fact this looks like toilet water after a bad case of Taco Bell it really is nice beer and the red wine barrel is showcased without being the star of the show. The beer works well together. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-16-2012

Bottle acquired via trade. Shared at Tooch’s tasting. Pours a richly deeply hazed copper brown hue. Rich haziness with with touches of orange and amber glow on the edges. A frothy whitish head atop dies to a thicker ring, laces ok overall. Firm lacing with a good thicker ring overall. Aromas are a touch oxidizedn sweeter rye and toffee, caramel and toast. Touches of florals, gentle grass, some spice. Richer orange fruit, orange peel, touches of red wine, tannins. Initial is thicker, a touch thinned from the barrel with toffee, toast, and caramel latching onto some medium red wine tannins, oak, and a faint vanilla. Oak, richer orange touches of red wine (though not tannic, more winey) into the middle with firm oranges, red wine, touches of sweetness. Oranges. Middle is a bit sweeter. Backend a bit dry and winey, tannins. Really comes into some life here. Solid barrel aged beer, a bit old.
