Bottle shared with the group (1/1/2013). Pours black in color with a small, fine tan head. Viscous and sticks to the glass. The aroma has a big, sweet chocolate brownie burst with cocoa, brandy, and some dark fruit. The flavor has much of the same; decadent chocolate, brandy, barrel and dark fruits notes with a smooth, viscous mouth feel. The ba dark lords are still quite a treat even if the base is not these days.

Bottle from Sean9689, thanks buddy. Cracked open to celebrate my exam (got an A/10 in the Danish system) Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is brandy, coffee, chocolate, roast, molasses, oak. Flavour is chocolate, roasted malt, brandy, oak, wood. Very complex. Smooth and delicious. Awesome.

Sampled from bottle during a vertical 2004-2012 line-up of all DLs, during a beer tasting weekend - in the cellar of Chez Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles. Notes include main characteristics in aroma and flavour components. 2012 Bourbon BA DL - bottle 197/685 - bourbon, vanilla, molasses, some chocolate. 3.8/5 2012 Boubon Vanilla DL - bottle 921/934 - chocolate, vanilla, sherry... Aroma makes one think of a vanilla scented cancle (no shit). 3/5 2012 Cognac Vanilla DL - bottle 409/534 - green coffee beans, green paprica, spicy notes. No Cognac scent at all. 3/5 2012 Cognac De Muerte DL - bottle 203/817 - cacao, pepper and peppers scent. Taste is very hot due to the peppers but take away most of the taste - pity (not as balanced as for example the Hunahpu) 3.3/5 2011 PVW Bourbon BA DL - bottle 261/484 - thanks Jeffo! - lots of bourbon, but beautifully embedded in the whole aroma palet. The first DL I really dig. Vanilla, coconut, chocolate. Best of the vertical. 4.2/5 2011 Brandy BA DL - bottle 185(?)/312(?) - a sour pinch to the basic DL character, cherries. 3.2/5 2011 Brandy Vanilla DL - bottle 403/433 - loooots of chocolate. 3.1/5

Waxed bottle. Poured a black color with a tan head. Chocolate, wood, some brandy, vanilla, and dark fruits. This was good, but was expecting something a ’little more’.

Big cheers to Craig for this one (cgarvieuk). Opaque dark brown beer. Tiny tan bubbles fail to form a head. Palate is rich and smooth with fine carbonation. Rich dark malt, not bitter or roasty. Smooth and a little creamy. Whispers of dark chocolate and dark toffee. Lovely brandy links everything together, trace of wood. Finishes with a trace of aniseed and a whisper of dark fruits. Lovely dark treat!

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, big thanks to Geoff for the pour! Thick black pour with creamy tan head, aroma brought big notes of sweet brandy, dark chocolate, coffee, lots of sweet dark fruits and candied sugars, some booze in there but pretty well hidden, some nice vanilla notes come through as well. Taste is lots of sweet vanilla, candi sugar, chocolate, touch of brandy comes through and adds a boozy sweetness, some slight coffee, roast, finishing very sweet, slightly boozy, but overall actually tasty and balanced.

Bomber to taster (from notes; BIG thanks to alexsdad06). Looks good; a viscous black with tan head that dissipates into lacing. Smells good too; sweet, malty, and boozy. Tastes like it smells with a nice brandy element that’s pleasant on the palate, as well as tasty. Excellent beer.

Barrel-Aged Dark Lord tasting! Thanks to all the guys in the tasting group who helped make this happen. The beer is dark brown, nearing black with a thin, beige head. The aroma is really nice, offering dark, roasted malts, brandy, sweet malt, dark fruits, alcohol. Great flavor. Super smooth. Complex, wonderful, delicious. Full bodied with relatively low carbonation. Overall, an awesome beer. So glad for the opportunity to sample this. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-15-2012

Black, little brown head. Smells like brandy and alcohol, some roast. Taste is very sweet, raisin, dates, brazy, booze. Texture is oily and nice. Very nice beer.

Bottle shared by MIsta! Dark brown/black pour, almost no carbonation and an aroma peat, dark fruits and a hint of brandy. Flavor is sweet brandy, dark cherries, chocolate and a nice balance all the way through (way more than any regular version.) Any fan of sweeter imperial stouts will love this. Thanks for sharing Geoffrey!
