huge thanx to bobochamps for sharing ! the only dark lord i concidered having a chance to live up to its name, as i like the cognac beer very much ( hel en verdoemenis 666 is my favourite beer, by example) . i was not dissapointed ! bottle 449/532 almost no foam, dark brown beer. smell is very cognac-based. taste is sweet ( dark lord ... ) buttery, very low carbo. the best dark lord ( variant) iíve had so far, yet it stays dark lord.. why does it have to be sooo sweet, so 1-taste based?

Shared at a tasting hosted by Steebo on February 13. I think this was a top 3 for me from the entire night. Bottle # 115/534. The pour is black with a small thin dark khaki ring that lines the glass. The aroma is really sweet. You can definitely get a lot of the cognac in there but the sweet brown sugar and heavy, heavy chocolate notes take over. It almost smells like a brownie. There is a good roast under all of it. The flavor is really heavy on the chocolate and brown sugar. I think it might be a molasses cookie in beer form. There is a light vanilla, and subtle cognac on the end. The mouth feel is really thick and chewy. Just coats the mouth and feels an inch thick, Incredible. The carbonation is soft and subtle and just help this thing not leave your mouth. The aftertaste is sweet chocolate and bitter roast. Damn

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2015 Bottle: 115/534. Almost black body, thin tan ring outlines the top. Aroma of huge burnt sugars. Brown sugar, residual sugar cane, sugar in the raw, & mild cognac, all burnt & super sweet. Fudge, chocolate cake, light vanilla, roast. Flavor has notes of largely sweet brown sugar, wet oak, light soy sauce, vanilla, booze, super sweet chocolate, sticky molasses, very faint oxidation, & a touch of licorice. Thick, heavy body, palate coating. Very nice, very heavy, very sweet. Great.

Sampled at RBSG. From notes. Cognac, wood, vanilla, caramel chocolate and coffee. Lives up to the hype.

This beer here, this beer I had @ the Grand Tasting... Compliments of some kind soul, although I think it was DrSilverworm who poured me this bus, not sure if it was his bottle or not... glad to give that bro the cred though.
Pours basically black with a small head and decent enough lacing on the glass.

The aroma is very sweet with some good roastiness and some rich boozy brandy like character. Itís pretty straightforward, sweet imperial stout and brandy... of course pleasantly so, but straight forward nevertheless.

The flavor offers chocolate, brandy, and espresso... itís not unlike those Asbach filled chocolates that I love oh so much. Itís got another layer to it though for sure, itís almost like a dessert wine at times... perhaps even the raisiny on honey on brandy characteristics of a Pedro Ximenez.

The palate is Dark Lord, maybe a touch hotter than usual, but totally mouth coating and huge.

A really fun one to try.

The beer is pitch black with a thin beige cap. The aroma brings rich, roasted malt, chocolate, oak, booze, and cognac notes. Sweet cognac flavor goes beautifully with the huge imperial stout. Iíve yet to meet a cognac barrel-aged beer I didnít enjoy. This is no exception. Absolutely terrific stuff.

22 oz bottle shared by Huhzubendah, thanks Matt! Pours a deep black color with mahogany hues when backlit. Head is uneven bubbles that fade to the edge with a drizzly wisp of small bubbles on the meniscus. Aroma is classic Dark Lord aroma with cognac notes that round everything out. Flavor is round, smooth and delicious with cognac smoothness. Silky mouthfeel, full carbonation, and tobacco finish. Delicious.

Sampled at the RBSG 2014. It poured a black color with a red head. The aroma was of molasses, sugar, coffee, chocolate, oak and notes of brandy. The taste was of coffee, brandy, chocolate, roast and prunes. Just awesome.

Shared by some kind soul at RBSG, thick oily glug glug black pour, with a small layer of mocha head. Aroma, holy sugar bomb, sweet dark fruits, oak, vanilla, ash, lot of barrel, and more sugar. Taste is incredibly sweet up front, followed by some oak, vanilla, and dark fruit, with a rich chocolate finish, thick sticky mouthfeel. Glad I finally got to tick one of these things but a small sample is all I could handle for something so sweet, still enjoyed it though.
