4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
huge thanx to bobochamps for sharing !
the only dark lord i concidered having a chance to live up to its name, as i like the cognac beer very much ( hel en verdoemenis 666 is my favourite beer, by example) . i was not dissapointed !
almost no foam, dark brown beer. smell is very cognac-based. taste is sweet ( dark lord ... ) buttery, very low carbo.
the best dark lord ( variant) i’ve had so far, yet it stays dark lord.. why does it have to be sooo sweet, so 1-taste based?

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
One of my favorite variants. Pours a dark sludgy color with a thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, wooden barrel, coffee, sweet and boozy. Flavor is big, boozy, sweet, touches of fruity cognac, more booze, some molasses and chocolate. The fruitiness is apparent, hot, interesting. The cognac barrel mixes well with this beer. Full bodied, above average carbonation. Finishes sweet and boozy.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 550. The aroma still has a lot of sweetness to it. The taste has some heat to it and distinct from the other variants. A very nice variant.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled from bottle during a vertical 2004-2012 line-up of all DLs, during a beer tasting weekend - in the cellar of Chez Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles. Notes include main characteristics in aroma and flavour components.
2012 Bourbon BA DL - bottle 197/685 - bourbon, vanilla, molasses, some chocolate. 3.8/5
2012 Boubon Vanilla DL - bottle 921/934 - chocolate, vanilla, sherry... Aroma makes one think of a vanilla scented cancle (no shit). 3/5
2012 Cognac Vanilla DL - bottle 409/534 - green coffee beans, green paprica, spicy notes. No Cognac scent at all. 3/5
2012 Cognac De Muerte DL - bottle 203/817 - cacao, pepper and peppers scent. Taste is very hot due to the peppers but take away most of the taste - pity (not as balanced as for example the Hunahpu) 3.3/5
2011 PVW Bourbon BA DL - bottle 261/484 - thanks Jeffo! - lots of bourbon, but beautifully embedded in the whole aroma palet. The first DL I really dig. Vanilla, coconut, chocolate. Best of the vertical. 4.2/5
2011 Brandy BA DL - bottle 185(?)/312(?) - a sour pinch to the basic DL character, cherries. 3.2/5
2011 Brandy Vanilla DL - bottle 403/433 - loooots of chocolate. 3.1/5

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black body, more tan head than most BADLs. Smells of dark fruit, caramel candy, bready malt. Taste follows the same profile; reminds me of drinking less boozy cognac. Not as roasty, yielding to the dark fruits. And not hot at all. Could use more body.
A stellar BA RIS overall.
